I have only heard the voice of God once and he was not pleased with me. However, I have asked for guidance on things, understanding parts of the Bible etc and I will get ideas or concepts that suddenly "come to me." They both illuminate and guide me, they have never been wrong and I was clueless before I asked. Your experience falls in line with both mine and many others I know.
I would venture God has used this back issue to bring you to a point you will hear him, he "speaks" softly for a while, but will take you to the wood shed if he has to.
My suggestion is go see your EX, tell her you were perfectly content to say see you to her, but you had an "experience" with the Lord which made you feel like you had not made the effort to keep your marriage that you should have, ask her forgiveness for the past and see what happens. I don't know what your divorce reasons are, it may be 95% her, but it's never 100% anybody. I know your pride is screaming no way, but I also know as do you or you would not be asking, the Lord has spoken to you. Do your part with your soon to be EX, at least if she refuses you can look the God of the Universe "in the eye" and say I gave it my 100% and not be guilty.
That's my 2 cents, I've been the go to the wood shed type too many times, I would save you a beating if I can with this advice.
God bless you, your marriage and I'll pray for you all.
