Hi, my name is Clive Law and some of you may know me from gun books that I have written ("Canadian Military Handguns, 1855-1985" - "Inglis Diamond, the Canadian High Power" - "Without Warning, Canadian Sniper Equipment of the 20th Century"). I also contributed to the Standard Catalogue in the Inglis Browning section.
I am looking for some guidance on S&W revolvers and this group is the best starting point that I could think of.
I am currently serving with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (the Mounties) in Haiti as a member of their UN mission. My responsibilities include the Haitian police armoury and the training of the Haitian police armourers.
The police here had over 40 models of handguns in use. This is because all of their firearms are gifts from different agencies and even different countries. I have reduced this inventory to a more manageable 8 models of which 7 are S&W (the 8th is a Taurus Semi-Auto). These models are; 10, 13, 15, 36, 49, 60 and 64.
I am looking for any material that could be used to train Haitian police officers to be basic firearms technicians, i.e., how to strip, clean, maintain and change simple parts. Any advice on available publications which show line-drawings, exploded views or even posters of these revolvers would be gratefully received. If you have spare documentation that you would be willing to donate I will provide a mailing address. If you have instructions, etc... that can be scanned (300DPI) and e-mailed then that would greatly assist me in putting together instructional binders.
If nothing else, even the name of a book and its publisher would be very useful - although Haitian police funds are almost non-existant and salaries are the priority.
None of the above is meant to encourage illegal copies or the breaking of copyright. To the moderators; if this post is unacceptable and contravenes forum rules please delete and accept my apologies.
Thank you,
Clive

I also suggest that book.

However, there may be some problems getting the book sent abroad to Haiti, although I doubt that the book would cause any problems. Spare parts however, would be a different deal altogether!

Springs and screws, still probably no problem. Any true "gun part" being shipped out of the U.S. now comes with a lot of red tape, and Brownells or S&W or Taurus directly would be the best way to get parts to them. Either that, or have their consul here get the parts for them. I'd be willing to bet that S&W might make them a nice little "parts kit" with screws, springs and and a few tools for very little. Getting it there is the hard part.

Taurus doesn't really have a "big book" but their instruction manuals for their handguns that I know of any longer, but they do have schematics in the back of them, and are also listed online on their website.

Thanks for your quick replies. I am not worried about getting books/parts here as the US Embassy will take on the responsibility of getting appropriate export clearances. My needs are more fundamental - identifying whatever instructional resources exist.
thnx again.

An additional welcome from Texas. Best of luck finding your resources. Please PM or email if there is anything an old reserve officer can do for you in your mission.

Welcome to the forum. It's a good thing you're doing over there. They need all the help they can get. I have to many stories that are not pretty conserning a friends family that stays and won't leave. They are business owners and seem to be paranoid concerning the local criminals.
