Astra Constable

Just curious - a discussion about Walther PPKs reminded me of this gun I once owned.

Does anyone have any experience with this gun? I never shot mine; I traded it NIB for something else. But I am curious as to what folks think about them.

I had one in 22LR, it functioned well but wasn't equal to the
accuracy I wanted. I was hunting for a 32size 22 to carry in
the field when occupied with things other than shooting. I
had Beretta, Bernadelli, Unique, Star and some off the wall
cheapies. I found out none of them would replace a m34
Kit Gun. The best gun kinda in this bracket is a 422 S&W 4".

Funny you should mention Star. I have a Star Model S that I have not shot in a very long time but it is one of the most accurate handguns I own. Well, it was when I was used to shooting it and had better vision - but any present issues would be mine, the gun is still accurate as it was before!

I should note that the rosewood grips were custom made by Ajax after the original hard rubber grips cracked.

Nice! I have been trying to get one but folk with deeper pockets are always about.

Have 2 of the 22 LR models. They function well with good ammo & are accurate enough for short range plinking or small game hunting. Had a 380 that was very picky about ammo & not all that dependable. Magazines are expensive

I kept a Astra Constable .32 ACP for several years in the late 1970s/early 1980s. It was quite dependable and I've admired Astra ever since because of it. I purchased it new. Now can't recall why I traded it away. I've thought about purchasing another Astra Constable just 'cause.

Never owned one but detailed cleaned a best friends. Big for caliber and well put together. Ran like a champ when test fired but a bear to put back togher sometimes.... finiky trigger bar/spring.

Carried the.380 as a backup gun briefly, several years ago. Qualified easily, no issues, traded it back when I was foolish. Accurate enough, hollow points fed well.

Good little sidearm.

I think its the same group as the Bersa and Firestorms? I have the Firestorm and the manual mentions the Astra Constable when discussing the internal lock "not applicable to Astra Constable" or something like that.

Here are a couple, a 22 and engraved .380. I haven't had any problems out of either. Astra and Star pistols don't get the respect they deserve.

I have a Constable in 380. Previous owner had problems with feeding rounds. All I did was polish the feed ramp and aligned the magazine lips a little. It now is very dependable and accurate at 15 yards. I carried it for awhile, nice little pocket gun.

I've owned three over the years. Love'em. GunBroker usually has a couple of nice ones. It's a really an overlooked piece.

If I didn't already have that Star and a Beretta Cheetah/85F I would really get serious about another Astra Constable but they're all around the same size and I rarely shoot and never carry a .380 anymore. I do think about carrying the Beretta.....

But thanks for the information! You never know, I could succumb to temptation yet again!
