Had my name on the list of 3 shops, looking for a nice model 19. Two years passed with no call. I got a call from an old acquaintance asking my advice about what gun to buy as he owned a gun but it kicked to much and was too loud. When I asked what he had, all he knew was Smith and Wesson. I told him where to look, low and behold 19-4 was the reply. I offered to buy, he told me he had been offered 650 I said 750 he said sold. I had blue in mind but.....Maybe I paid to much but they are not going down are they ? Crazy how things happen.

It is a beautiful revolver, you have been waiting for two years do not think if you pay a little more and enjoy your new weapon.

You did not pay too much. I know that there are always going to be folks here ,and other forums, who will happily critique your inability to haggle down the price, but I can tell you that nice Model 19s are easily going for $700 in my corner of Idaho and often they go higher than that. I paid $675 for my 19-3 snubnose back in 2014. It was priced for $700, but I was able to pay cash so the dealer knocked twenty-five dollars off. So six years ago $700 was not considered to be gouging at all. In 2020 I'm seeing Model 19s go for between $800 - $1000! You didn't do badly at all in my opinion. You wanted it and you could afford it. Good job and enjoy.

Very nice looking nickel 19. It looks especially good with those dark grips on a nickel gun in my book. Are those grips factory Rosewood?

That sure is a nice looking nickel S&W! Blue is my favorite, but right after is nickel. Of the 3 finishes, stainless is my least favorite in the LOOKS dept. Bob

I think you did just fine for a private sale, especially between friends. My 6" Model 19-3 in nickel was a 1976, shot very, very little and I had it for sale locally advertised for almost a year at $800 with no takers at all. The only flaw was a small chip on butt of grip panel...clearly described in my adds.

I dropped the price to $700 and it sold the same day....and that was 4 years ago!

Again............you did good at $750 in my opinion.

You are quite the kind spirit to give him $750 after he told you that he had been offered $650. Did you pay too much? Sure, I might be able to find one like that around here for $749.95.

In today's crazy market, $750 would be the going price.

Both nickel finish and 6” barrel are slight upgrades IMHO, and you would have likely had to pay more for that gun in that condition in any of the lgs whose lists you were on. If your friend had sold it to a lgs or auctioned it, he would have taken about a 30% hit. Therefore you both did well!

First, I think "haggling up" is an excellent way to to buy a gun that you want. It's no different than an auction, right?

Second, you did not pay too much. My somewhat beat up 2.5" Model 19 sold on line for nearly that price a few months ago.. You got a beauty; be happy!
