I got a package from S&W today with three factory letters. One is for my Triple Lock - I posted about it in the pre-war forum. The other two were for my 1950 Target and my K22.

The 1950 Target shipped in 1955 to Cabot & Webster Co, Yonkers NY. Anyone heard of them?

The K22 shipped in 1949 (I had thought it was a '48 gun, darnit) to H.D. Folsom Arms Co in New York City. I've heard of Folsom, but can't place it.

It is interesting to me that I found the 1950 Target at a dealer in Montana and the K22 in a pawn shop in Goldsboro, NC. The Triple Lock (which went to a company in Philly) was found in rural western NC. I wish the guns could tell us where they have been!

Both of my 1950s (S140775 & S143776) left home in 1955 (April and October, respectively). How close is yours?

So whats the approximate serial of your K22? What made you think it might be a 1948 production gun? You been believing the tables again?

I'm guessing you have a sub K80,000s serial.

Wow. Only 18 units apart. Yet 4 months difference.

Mine went to St. Louis and New Orleans, BTW.

Are both of yours 5" guns? They look it from the picture angle. I've never seen one in hand and you appear to have two. Impressive.

Just to show the vagaries of the number/date thing, 1950 Target .44 Spl. serial# S 141075 shipped October 4, 1955, later than some of your higher serial numbered guns.

They are both 5" but are not original. At some point they wound up in the same collection and both were sent to S&W in 1970 (and both carry the rework stamp and 1970 date) with one having a 5" replacement barrel installed and the other having the original 6.5" tube cut. Makes me wonder if that was the last 5" barrel they had in parts stock since one was cut rather than replaced.

They also fitted both with wide, smooth triggers.

BTW, one is bright blue and the other is brushed.
