Do any of you who are non-ffl worry about the report the dealer has to file when you buy 2 or more collector handguns at the same time?

I'm sure we're all on their lists somewhere, even though they are not supposed to keep a list of names from background checks it's done on computers so I'll bet they do. The multiple purchase report just tells them what you bought and if you're not buying lot's of High Points, Lorcins and other cheap guns (or maybe potential "assault rifles") you probably won't get flagged as a possible gunrunner. I don't worry about it much, figure I've bought enough guns over the years, hunting licenses, concealed carry and written letters to enough politicians to get their attention already.

Who can afford to buy two handguns within a five work day period? I sure can't. Actually I don't worry about it much. If the ATFE really wants to know how many guns I've bought let them check with the dealers around home.

My FFL is a buddy, and he always starts my NICS check with a cheery, "Got another repeat offender". That, coupled with my distinctive name and the fact I am a green Card holder probably means that the NHP/NICS crew in Carson are well aware that I possess firearms, or at least up until the boat accident.:D

I would never buy more than one handgun in one week from the same dealer. For multiple handgun purchases in one week from the same dealer, the Multiple Handgun Purchase Form must be sent to the ATF by the dealer. If a dealer has two handguns that I want to buy, I buy one and ask the dealer to hold the second for about 10 days or I put the second one on layaway if possible. Many dealers will not tell the buyer of multiple handguns that he is required to submit this form. I presume this still applies to multiple purchases in one week. Why get your name on yet another list?

If I was to hypothetically ever have the money to buy two handguns I would put one on lay away and buy it at a later date.

It is just another stupid requirement. If you buy a gun from one dealer and go across the street to another, there is no form so what's the sense??

What's messed up is when I first started doing them I had a fellow come in and buy 3 stripped AR lowers.
Not knowing which form to use, either the multiple rifle or handgun I called the ATF for clarification.
When asked, they said no multiple form was needed.
Go figure.

There wasn't one for long guns until recently; and now only for TX, NM, AZ, and CA.

The multiple handguns form also goes to the local LE.

We need to wait five days between one gun purchases so no multiple gun buying report has to be sent. I don't really care either way.

So when I win the NRA-ILA Winner-Take-All Sweepstakes and take possession of 31 guns at the same time, might that raise an eyebrow or two?

No, never worried about it,,,but I know as fact the County Sheriff's office know that I have a C&R license!
Nobody has ever come knocking or has ask any questions.

Just happened to me 3 weeks ago. I had my FFL transfer 2 at the same time. He said you MIGHT get a ATF visit. I did. :D

How'd the visit go? What kind of questions were asked? Did they want to see your entire collection of Guns/Ammo? PM me if you need to...:)

Multiple gun purchases

I quit doing it, because way too many people get into your business now with multiple gun purchases.....so I make a regular pilgrimage to the LGS and procure my items....being a retired fed...I am of the opinion that anything that gets put into a computer, stays in a computer somewhere and can be accessed by all sorts of folks who have "a need to know" ( or maybe not ).....several years ago I bought a Smith 29 with a 8 3/8" bl......took it home....several weeks later my dealer called me and asked if I still had that revolver....yep I do....asked to me go get it and read off the SN#....I did.....it had a five digit SN.....he said that the ATF had called him and told him that this gun did not have enough digits...it needed 6...so he calls me....I assure him that it only has five digits......He said "okay, I'll tell them"......few minutes later he calls back and gives me a ph# to.....an agent in Chicago......we have a discussion.....I assure her this gun really does have a five digit SN#......she wanted a photo.....so I took one and e mailed it to her...end of story....okay....so how did all that occur? Bought gun in Indiana, weeks later someone from Chicago wants to know why it only has 5 digits?
Now somebody somewhere is reading my mail.....I know, break out the tin foil hats.

I may have had my FFL hold one gun for a week before running the paperwork.

That is if it was legal.

If that would have been illegal then I never did it.

Either way, those guns were also lost in the tragic boating accident. :(

Warrant?

They can ask, but need a warrant to come in your house.

They used to need a warrant but thanks to the new department Bush created called Department of Homeland Security (The Patriot Act) all they need to do is say they think you are a terrorist then they're in your house without a warrant! You might even get to vacation in Cuba (Guantonimo)!!

:D
