ATI Model 1911

Hi:
I recently purchased a ATI Model 1911 Commander .45acp Pistol/
The weapon prints low using 230 grain FMJ ammo.
1. 21 feet- six inches low of POA
2. 15 yards- 12 inches low from POA
3. 25 yards- 18 inches from POA

*** The rear sight appears to be higher than the front sight

Opinions ?

This may help but it sounds like someone mismatched the sights to me.

On a 1911 the rear sight is always higher than the front. The line of sight on any gun needs to be fairly close to parallel to the centerline of the barrel. A 1911 barrel is level with the slide rails only when the action is open. When closed, the barrel is pointing downward to the front compared to the slide rails. Thus the sights need to be angled the same amount. Most are in the 1 to 1-1/2 degree range, depending on how the barrel is fitted to the slide.

Let a friend fire the 1911 and see if it s consistent with the way it shoots for you. If it is, then I'd call the Company you purchased it from and see what they can do for you. The low printing you posted is pretty extreme for those distances and is not acceptable. If your friend shoots exactly to the same POI you are then at least you know it's nothing you're doing.
