Not sure how old this information is, but if ou use 'NU FINISH' car wax in the final polish of your brass, it is being discontinued. I have a couple bottles on the shelf but will look tomorrow for a couple more. I use 6 squirts and 3 tea spoons of minerial spirits in my crushed Walnut every 2/300 pieces of brass as a final dressing. Removes any lube etc. Just thought I would pass this along. :)

Well carp! I'm one of them guys that uses a bit of NuFinish in every tumbling session. Dang it!

I tried it but didn't like it ... worked better on my 1967 Chevelle !
Gary

Maybe your expectations were too high. Other than leaving a slick finish on the cases, it doesn't do a whole lot. It's not the Newfinish that cleans and polishes, that's the medias job.

I use Nu Finish on my cars and really like the results.

I use a bit of Brasso in my crushed 'whatever' media.... it works too.

I have used Turtle Wax the most because that's what was in my garage. Same results as Nu-Finish. It seems like someone will ask a question, someone makes a recommendation, a few try it and that becomes the "standard" for a particular use, thus Nu-Finish is closely associated with brass tumbling. Fortunately Nu-Finish was recommended prior to my tumbling and reloading forums (first forums in 2005, and I ignored most of the tumbling "formula") and I reloaded for 12 years before I tumbled any brass. Any auto wax/polish will work for leaving a light film of wax on the cases post tumbling...

Now there's going to be a run on Nu-Finish so you users better run to the store and stock up!

STROKES

Well, we all have our own ideas. :) It works for me so I'm good. Just wamted to pass along for those interested. I picked up a couple bottles this morning.:D

This post was very timely. I don't use Nu Finish when tumbling my brass, however I do use it to polish my vehicles. It comes pretty close to being a "once-a-year car wax".

I didn't feel like shopping at the Chinese Consulate and opted to go to my local Advance Auto. It appears that I scored the last bottle.

Thanks for the "heads-up".

Nu Finish

As stated above, the Nu Finish does not clean the brass, the media does! However it does coat the brass with a very slick finish. This reduces the drag when the brass is resized. You are thinking, "that's what the case lube is for"! Correct! However, when sizing straight wall cases most people use Carbide dies and the slick finish aides in reducing the force required to force the brass through the die and reduces the wear on the die. IMHO

As jcelect pointed out, if you reload straight wall cases it really does help them to slide almost effortlessly. I could find no news when I Googled it.

I've put it in the tumbler for years, but can't say I've ever really considered using it on a vehicle. I might give it a try sometime.

In addition to a squirt of NuFinish, I like to throw a used dryer sheet in there as well. It keeps down the dust, and keeps your media clean longer.

SOURCE??

See no evidence that it is being discontinued? Source?

Just something I read in passing. My experience has shown, no matter what it is, if you have a good use for it they will discontinue it in either all together, or in the form you have a good use for. I look for and find uses for many things other than their intended use. I read about this use a few years ago and it was new to me- I lead a sheltered life , I tried it and it worked for me. I tend to stick with what works. All my loaded ammp gets a few minutes in crushed walnut treated in this way, Removes all lube etc. Brasso has ammonia so I never use it as ammonia can weaken brass IMHO. :)

As a side note- the auto store I went to said they hadn't had it in months--so I went to Harbor Freight across the street-- :)

powder VALLEY has some limited powders
some rifle and pistol powder ,prices are normal not inflated,

I went out just now to look for my partner's favorite peach popscicles. She has food sensitivities/allergies to many fresh fruits and veggies. But she can do heat pasteurized stuff like fruit juice popscicles.

Anyway, I was at our nearby Fred Meyer, a Kroger big box store on the west coast. They have a shrinking automotive and hardware section, so I took a look for Nu Finish. They had a stock of about 8 at $8 a bottle. I already had a new one at home, but I got 3 more.

So check out hardware and big box stores too people. Big Targets might be a good place to check out, or Lowe's and Home Depot. They have an automotive aisle too. Menards maybe (just a guess)

And on Saturday I stumbled on a small selection of CCI primers at the END of the day at Cabela's. Limit 1K. If my partner were there, we would have cleared them out. I got 600 large magnum pistol primers, and 400 small rifle magnum. I already have 1K large rifle magnum, and another 1K large rifle, all CCI. So at least I can make a summer/fall supply for the family. I still have about 300 suspect 9mm reloads to break down, resize, and load with good powder too.

When things started to go downhill last spring with reloading supplies, my local gun store was out of primers first. The powder hung around, with a daily limit of 1# per powder type. I eventually ended up with about 2/3rd of their stock. Something like 35# of pistol powders. The place I found those rifle primers at had an 8# jug of Winchester 748. SCORE!!!!!!! So thats a LOT of .308 and .30-'06

People in big cities don't reload. They just buy REALLY expensive boxes of 9mm ball for their new Tupperware toys.

Gotta clean my garage and get to work........
