As many of you are aware the Carry in Restaurants Bill has passed the Tennesee legislature and is now only awaiting our Governor's signature.
The liberal media is pushing hard against it in one last chance effort. All of them are focusing on "Bullets in Bars" and completely ignoring what the bill was originally designed for. Namely to allow handgun permit holders to enjoy a meal at a nice restaurant that just happens to have a bar in it. The antis have pulled out all the stops. Lies and misconceptions are all over the news.
Report from the Tennessee Firearms Association is that Govenor Bredesen is waiting to see what the citizens reactions are before deciding if he will sign the bill.
As we all know, antis are an extremely vocal lot. They have no problem with screaming their stupidity at the top of their lungs.
I very strongly urge all Tenneseans to call, e-mail or otherwise contact the Govenor's office and express support for HB0962.
The Governor can be reached by phone at (615)741-2001 or email [email protected]

What passed here last year?

The law that says we can carry in an establishment that serves alchohol by the glass, as long as it isn't their primary source of income.

Hat trick for me: I've called, emailed and sent a letter to Governor Bredesen.

What a relief it was to finally see Jimmy Naifeh removed as the House Speaker after 18 years of restricting Tennesseans constitutional rights.

Thanks for the post and I urge everyone that lives outside of Tennessee to email the governor too. I'm sure that out-of-state people with handgun permits would like to dine in fine restaurants that serve alcohol too. Let him know where you're more likely to spend your tourism dollars.

Thanks in advance.

That law has been on the books for years. No shoot-outs either.

No sir.

According to the MSP, MCRGO, the Waterford police department, and my last renewal paperwork for my CCW, any place that served liquor by the glass was off limits until the law was changed last year.

It's hard to imagine a seasoned pol like Bredesen deciding whether to sign by how many people email him.
I suspect he won't sign it but let it pass into law in 10 days.
I emailed him last Fri anyway. He ought to know how Tennesseans feel about it.

tenntucker-
I stand corrected.

I am confusing a fairly new law here with this topic, my bad.

That's why we're here. To learn from each other.

BTW. I spend several months a year in Tennessee. I'm preparing to move back.

What's this? A gun law related discussion ending with a hand shake and a pat on the back and no one was called a stupid SOB in the mean time? What's the world coming to?

Smitty

I just called and left my message encouraging his support of the legislature's bills on this matter. Gov. has staff that answer 24/7. Every call and opinion DOES matter folks.
