Auction Find

Yesterday afternoon I drove about 60 mile to a gun auction. A lot of the stuff they had was JUNK. A lot came out of an estate and it looked as if the guns sat in a VERY damp basement for years. This little tip up caught my eye and went pretty cheap at $140 plus 10% buyer's premium. Lighting at the auction was poor and when I got hoe and wiped it down and looked for the barrel address on the rib, it was not there. Then I noticed that the address was on the side of the barrel. I whipped out my Flayderman and was pleasantly surprised to see that there is a substantial premium for the 2 11/16 inch barrel. The revolver is in excellent shape, the bore is perfect, and no wobble at the hinge, lots of original blue. I'd like to hear from anyone that knows more than I do (that will probably be the entire forum)

Don't know that much about em Gary, since I prefer the 1st issues, but counting yours, I've only ever seen 2 short barrel blues. I posted the other one a few months back. I'm pretty confident you're not going to lose any money on this one. :D

That is the strangest-looking Model of 1899 that I have ever seen.

How much do you want for that barrel ? I think I can use it in my short-barrel project.

Why would you think it is a replacement? It is numbered to the gun, last 3 digits 844

I would imagine Ed may question as the difference in the bluing condition between frame and barrel/cylinder. I'm told this is not unusual as the early iron frames were a different heat treat (or whatever they called it then), and the bluing took much better on the slightly softer frames than on the harder barrels & cylinders. I questioned the same thing and asked Roy about a No. 1 1/2 First Issue i recently obtained.

Nice gun! Could you take a picture of the lettering on the side of the barrel? I'd like to know what that looks like should I ever run across one of these myself.
Are you planning on lettering it? I think it would be $50 well spent.

Gary In august at the reno gun show I picked up two with short bbls. Both in blue Sold one for $700 80 per cent the other for $500. about thirty per cent blue I still have one nickel with ivory grips. I think I have $700 on it (It is buried still unpacking from move)
