About once a year a local auction company has a firearms auction (over and above the firearms included in his regular "estate" type auctions) at the local armory. I don't know how or where he gets all of the guns he puts in these auctions, but in the past, there have always been some pretty interesting things, so yesterday I went to this year's auction, coincidentally on my birthday.
There were about 200+ guns to bid on as well as a variety of books, Indian artifacts and old ammo. Unfortunately, the interesting S&Ws were definitely thin on the ground. Some newish ones and only a couple of early post-War models and only a few earlier ones, and they were in pretty poor shape. Anyway, the one of most interest to me was a narrow rib 1948 vintage K-22 in about 85% condition... all original and tight but with cosmetic wear.
There was the usual mixed bidding all over the place on the guns, and this one came near the end of the day, but when it finally got to the podium I was able to get it for $425 +sales tax (no premium.) I figure for a good shooter this is only mildly out of line, and after all it was my birthday. Of course I wasn't born until 1949, but I figure this gun could have been there to guard my crib! Happy Birthday to Me!!

PS Did I ever mention the K-38 in the family safe whose SN is only 14,000 and change lower? Same year, but condition is about 98%. I guess now I'll just "have to" buy a K-32 in the same range to complete the trifecta. Oh well!
I'll try to shoot a picture of them together and maybe one of the K-22 with its older brother the 22 HFT.
