It is interesting, to me anyway, that the write-up on the rear interior flap of the dust jacket, see below, refers to an earlier, shorter edition which apparently was abridged and edited to eliminate Keith's ungrammatical, conversational style. Since his idiosyncratic, ungrammatical, conversational style is surely one of the book's main charms, we are fortunate that his publisher thought to revise the earlier edition so that Keith would come across as he did in person, rather than as filtered through an editor.


Hell, I was There is by Bob Petersen, 1979, the guy who published "Guns & Ammo" mag and a great friend of Elmer. Elmer worked for G&A for many years.

It was done by Winchester Press about 5 years earlier in 1974 I think. Rather dry. Elmer was NOT happy with the editing and said so in print a few times. As I recall, he never let editing for any subsequent books get out of his control.
