Goin' to Austin, Texas. Any good gunshops? Specifically those that may have used leather and reloading components.

Thanks.

McBride's usually has a good selection of used guns, and a bin of used leather to pick from. Their prices tend to be on the high side, and they usually don't budge much, if any, from their posted prices.

My favorite place is Tex Guns in South Austin. It's a family owned and family run gun store crammed into a tiny little place. The owner, Chuck, is very knowledgeable, and friendly. If you don't see what you're looking for, ask as he has stuff stashed away in little corners and crevices. Be sure to look at the display cases carefully - he has quite a few interesting pieces in there and you can easily overlook something if you just do a quick glance. Chuck's prices are usually very competitive (i.e. reasonable), and he's usually willing to work with you on the price.

Red's actually has two locations in Austin - one north (in Pfluegerville), and one south. He usually has a few guns in the used section. The prices are fair, but there doesn't seem to be any flexibility in the pricing. Both stores also contain indoor shooting ranges, so it can get pretty crowded and noisy at times.

If you get a chance, stop by the Salt Lick in Dripping Springs, TX - the best dang BBQ in Texas.

Best of luck,

Dave

Bring cash. I don't think Salt Lick at the original location takes plastic.

Right Arm is correct. The Salt Lick is a cash only joint, but they do have an ATM machine available.

Also, Semper Fi, I guess I should have mentioned GT Distributors:

GT Distributors - America's Law Enforcement supply specialist

They cater largely to active duty military and law enforcement, but civillians are also welcomed. They usually have a small selection of used long guns and handguns for sale. The handguns are generally LEO turn-ins or trade-ins, so lots of semi-autos like Glocks, and Springfields. Occassionally, you'll find a used S&W revolver. All kinds of new/modern kydex holsters and belts for sale. The sales staff are friendly, but that place is always busy and crowded! One service they offer that I'm very fond of is their $10.00 FFL transfer fee. I've taken advantage of that a couple of times and have been very pleased.

Best of luck,

Dave

Thanks again for the good info. Cash only BBQ in today's world? I bet they have a jukebox in there and 1950's fords parked out front.

I made it into Tex Guns. Description was correct. Lots of stuff in a small space. I asked and saw his S&W grips and bought two sets.

Didn't make it to the BBQ joint but my daughter and son-in-law confirmed it as described. I WILL go there next time.

Thanks again for the help and pointers.

I shoulda mentioned The Green Mesquite of Lamar. Very good and you don't have to plan ahead as it's right there in town.
