GB purchase. I suspected the APD stamp was Austin. Letter confirms it. Overall a pretty neat old 27-2. It had some white synthetic combat grips. I added the targets but will swap out for some magnas to be more correct. It does have line of corrosion where some target grips had been on it.

Very cool find. Love 3.5” 27s. <3 The only marked LE gun I have is a 5” nickel 27-2 from the the Florida Highway Patrol. Wasn’t looking for it. I watched it sit in the Reno Cabelas gun library for a year. I finally decided I should be the one to give it a good home. The finish was blotchy, but a little Flitz and Ren Wax shined her up like new.

Gary-Those Austin PD guns are great. In that same year I was carrying a blue 4 inch plain Jane Model 10. I believe member Quinn (Randy) may have further information about your gun. Then again maybe not but I’d suggest you contact him with a Private Message and ask. Enjoy that one. Jh

That one is beautiful.

Some one treated it to a Flitz rubdown before you bought it.

Those revolvers were being sold out of Shotgun News back in 1992. They were not even 20 years old yet. They were a super good buy and like all things hindsight, I should have bought 2 of them

Mine came wearing the target stocks, but I had to add the case to it. As you can see in this photo, it had not been flitzed yet

This was my 1st 3 1/2" Model 27 and it was like a drug. I now have 6 of them and I keep looking for more :)

What user name does Randy use? There was a member who retired from Austin PD who had records. But he went silent on both forums about 18 months ago. I have attempted to contact him with no success. Seems he used austinpd3844

It is interesting to see LE marked Model 27s. The 5” and 3.5” guns certainly have nice lines. I have a 6” nickel 27-2 that I bought new in 1973. I still have the original box with the price sticker, $175.

These guns are beautiful in either nickel or bright blue right through to the end of the pinned and recessed era.

Of all the older S&Ws and Colts that I own none are LE marked. I do have a Model 67 no dash that was owned and carried by an auxiliary police officer. It was purchased at and sold back to same LGS where I bought my 27. I have the holster and belt loop with 6 rounds that went with it.
I also have a 5” 38/44 that is first or second year gun. No LE markings but I plan to have this gun lettered to see if it went to an LE.

Austin Police Dept

I have a 3 1/2" Nickel, (Ringo, retired APD office supplied me with the inventory card giving me the history of each officer it was issued). Mine came with target grips. I bought it from an officer that worked for a different department than APD.
