When I take my car in for service and hand the remote to the service advisor, he can see on his computer any and every time I've opened the hood on the car. My car collects performance data and stores it, including acceleration, g-forces while braking and turning, and speeds driven...all of which is available to the manufacturer.
Toyota and BMW and Chevrolet are only doing what the rest of the commercial world has been doing for years. I'm always amused when people express concern about what "they" (meaning the Gubmint) know about about you...your credit card companies and Google know far more about you than Uncle Sam.
