For those of you that are still looking for a good, inexpensive IWB kydex holster, I just got two Kestrel holsters for my Shield 9, one with a quick belt clip and one with the tuckable clip. Let me just say that these things are awesome. And they are only $30 a pop. Fit and retention are spot on. So far I have had two Galco leathers, a Comptac Minotaur, and a Bladetech, all IWB, and these top them all for comfort and concealment.

Looks really good. One of the video reviews shows that pistol retention is not there until wearing with belt tightened? Is this your experience?

There is a retention adjustable screw which I tightened tonight. I can hold the holstered Shield with loaded magazine upside down, and now requires the holster to be shaken with intent to slide out.

Yes, the belt adds secondary retention to the firearm and holster.

Thanks for the feedback on the retention. I looked at pictures on their web page and based on your comment, I ordered a black one for my shield. Thanks for sharing your experience!

hatchet: I see from the thumbnail photos that you have the tuckable version as well. I wonder about the clip. Can you adjust the cant? Also, the same screw that adjusts the retention also is used to secure the clip. That appears to be a design flaw because it would always needed to be snugged down tight to keep the clip from being loose. Does it work well for you?
Thanks

I like the Intruder. Any iteration of half a plastic holster riveted to a big piece of leather would be more comfortable than a holster like shown above...

Those are not my photos and I do not have the tuckable model clips the first thumbnail shows my style of belt clip. The holster comes with a 15 degree forward cant and is not adjustable. The retention screw is separate from the clip screws.

Yes the holster works well for me and will probably buy one for my Glock G19c.

The one thing I do not want in my Holster is big or thick. The Kestrel holster is minimalist and works quite well for my Shield 9. Quite comfy.

Own a Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC (hybrid) for my Kimber 1911 4" which works well for a larger framed firearm.

wow looks good nice an thin. Have a question how is it against you your skin on a hot day.

People that use this as a complaint on their video reviews might not know how to simply adjust Kydex ;) :D
I've found that adjusting retention in just about any Kydex (or Hybrid) holster can be done very simply, using a Hair Dryer (or very careful application of a heat gun) and towel/oven mit.

Typical retention points for kydex are the ejection port and the trigger guard. Spot heat either of those areas (or both) and make them a bit more 'form fit' using the oven mit (or towel). It only take about 5-10 min. GOOD Kydex can be completely reshaped around 6 times before on needs to worry about weakening/cracking.

Just as an example, I completely reshaped this Hybrid PF-9 holster to accommodate my Shield (and it's nothing more than an inexpensive K-Holster 'Little Moon'.

A good tip for that is to use a wet cloth around the area you are adjusting to help avoiding the heat spreading.

For just trigger guard... I always recommend a hairdryer because you are just softening, not remolding... and be patient.

I have had a few holsters come back to me where people have been a little overenthusiastic modifying. I have policy of adjusting holsters free of charge for people if they need something more... or remaking them with the adjustment. Everyone is different and you build for the majority.

A good Kydex holster should be great out of the box... a few people want more retention for whatever reason, but for the most part it should be able to be shaken upside down and then almost pop out with a pull on the grip.

Adjustable retention... I'm no fan. It should be right out of the box unless you need that much more. That tends to be people that are crazy active through the day bending a lot and in and out of cars... but even then.

Received my Krestrel Holster today and it is perfect. Perfect retention, no need to adjust. The thing is so comfortable, I forgot I was wearing it. I am going to buy a few more holsters from them, they are an exceptional buy and quality seems equal or better to other more expensive makers.

how long does it take to receive the kestrel holster??

hey everyone so I bought a kestrel holster for my 9mm m&p shield on march 2.....I have not received it yet :eek:.... for those of you who have bought holsters from kestrel... in howmuch time did you guys get it? are they made custom from when you put the order? or are they premade already? and one more thing where do they send the holsters from..like country or state?

-thanks!

I like the concealment express had one for the 9c, for the shield decided to try the Tulster holster so far great good retention.

The trouble I have is finding an IN that sits high enough above the belt to get a grip on the grip to pull the weapon quickly if needed. I have a nice recommended leather one and sits too deep

Sent from somewhere in the space-time continuum.

Try one of these. I am very happy with my Treadstone. Only $36 with the $10 off of all holsters this weekend!
