Awww snap!

Literally. Shooting my model 13-2 at the range today!

Took my 18yr old cousin with me. It's his second time shooting and first where it's just me and him. We started​ easy....Glock 17 9mm. Then moved to HK P2000 40sw followed by Springfield TRP 1911 45acp. We finished of with 3 revolvers. A mid 70s model 36, a 642 and a 13. The 13 is a 4in barrel and was a police gun outside the US (has re import marks). Overall an amazing no nonsense workhorse of a revolver. 38s feel like 22s and 357 is very manageable. Amazing smooth trigger!

Soooo....back to the "snap". We went through a box of 38. I shot six, he shot six...etc. I had half a box of Magtech 357. I shot 6, he shot six....all the way to where there were 8 rounds left. I shot 4 and gave 4 to my cousin. He shot the last 4 and goes to open the cylinder but it's stuck. I'm thinking he did it wrong so I take it and can only get it open a little. After a few seconds of fiddling with it I got the cylinder open. What I ended up finding was that the firing pin snapped and the one part was stuck where it would be as it hit the primer!

So now I need a new firing pin! [emoji49]

So much for "six (or four?) for sure" .

Fortunately an easy fix.

Brownells is your friend. S&W may or may not have the parts(you'll need a new rivet too) but they aren't usually the best price. Used parts are also available but you never know how close they are to SNAP!

I'm sorry that happened. Kudos for the good time you both must have had. I'm sure learning from you, one on one, and the sheer joy of getting to shoot a half dozen different guns was something I'm sure he won't forget.

He had a great time! I had a great time watching him try to hit the target at 7 yards. He loved it. We spent 2 hours at the range!! He even took his targets home with him.

I forgot to mention .....He did best with the 1911. Glock and HK were NOT his friends but it's also his first real shooting experience. With the 1911 he would have a few fliers and a few close to the X

As far as the broken firing pin goes I busted his stones for it because it happened when he was shooting but he knew I was joking. Things break, what can you do! No big deal.

Sounds like you had a great day!! Give S&W customer service a call. It sure can't hurt. Not as old of a gun but I just had them replace the firing pin on my 29-6 recently. I had it back in two weeks.

simply put your model 13 felt bad about being shot last & having all these "self loaders" put first and this is how it repays you. Give her some love put her first & she wont snap out on you. Like a siren she calls you ...you cant refuse ...go to her take her lovingly and hold her!

So you're saying that what I thought was a tough as nails workhorse is actually a diva throwing a hissy fit?
