Grew up in a gun shop, after school, week-ends in South Florida, the owner traded guns and ammo for gold with the Cubans against Castro. Sears & Roebuck sold surplus 1911's for $19.00, 30 carbines for $25.00, 03A3's for $10.00, casas of ammo cheap. Gold ownership was banned until early 70's, the owner buried boxes of gold all over his property probably still there he would cover it with metal roofing bury it several feet down cover it with plants, it was a nursery.

"REB" owned the gun shop, was Army Airborne Ranger before, awesome gunsmith built rifles and could repair anything. Was rebuilding a 50 cal for a local collector when MLK was shot, he had an International Scout, camo paint with "Rebs Gun Shop" painted on the doors, the 50 didn't fit in the back so he had to strap it to the hood for delivery. The publix shopping center was filled with rioters, National Guard was maxed out across the state with rioters the Sheriff pleaded with Reb to bring the 50 up town said he was sure all they needed was to see it and they would go home, They saw it roll into the parking lot, within one minute they all went away no damage done.

To be continued............

My favorite was Mod. 27 4" for years until late 70's opened my own gun shop, I wouldn't give you $1.00 for all the 1911's until the day a customer traded me one built by Bob Chow, until then I couldn't even hit the back stop with a 45, this one outshot my 27 and ruined me since. I started building 45's after that. Took an old issue from my showcase reverse engineered the Bob Chow and got it shooting just as good, Wilson Combat parts will turn any old klunker into something wonderful today.

I took care of the law, didn't sell what walmart and kmart sold, one day a deputy comes in they wanted to buy the sheriff a "Dirty Harry Special" mod 29, was top of the charts then gun shops was selling them for near $1000.00, a deputy, Sargeant, had his own gun shop told them $850.00 for a birthday present for his boss........... made some calls found one for wholesale $280.00, told him cost plus shipping plus tax came to $315.00.......... sold. That Sargeant was pissed told his shift any of them at my shop got fired after that.
