Well, I bought a Shield 9 when they first came out but eventually sold it. Bought a M&P 40c to replace it and also added a Glock 42. Biggest mistake I've ever made! Missed my shield too much, great pistol, so I ditched the Glock 42 and picked up another Shield 9. The 40c is a very nice pistol, but still a little heavy and uncomfortable for me to conceal. Time to sell the 40c and start saving for that AR15 I've always wanted!

This absolutely does not surprise me but makes me feel better about my decision for buying a Shield...

I have a Glock 23 as my main, total-package gun. I moved here from a non-carry state and assumed I could and would carry it when I started EDC. But I quickly realized it was very much printing on me and I had been trying to correct the problem; however, even with buying a high-quality holster I still had problems. The G23 is just a bigger gun than my small, fairly thin body... and it was much worse when I carried extra mags... two 15rd mags of .40 S&W ammo added noticeable weight and therefore sag to my shorts .. (remember it's hot in Florida and shorts and a t-shirt are necessities... maybe that Glock will work in the winter but.. it ain't the winter).

So I went with a Shield in 9mm even over a Glock 27 & even a possible 9mm G26... I just thought that while those are fine, awesome guns, and again I might absolutely LOVE the G27 (Gen 4, FDE Lol) as a winter carry gun, I needed as small and light as possible BUT- I did NOT want to feel underarmed!

The Shield was perfect.. if I got a G27 or G26 I wouldn't be satisfied with the size and a M&P9C would defeated the whole purpose, might have just stayed with Glock. The Shield is exactly what I needed and just what I wanted.

And very very reasonable.. I paid $411 out the door w/ tax and background check fees, which I bought over-the-counter at a local gun shop (So I paid a few dollars more than if I ordered an internet gun, but I supported a local gun shop business and got it right then and there - PLUS, it was only in the shop 2 weeks and had only been made 38 days prior..brand spanking new).

Your post sort of validates me feelings - great minds think alike and there must be tons of smart people on here w/ the popularity of the Shields -- great minds great guns!!!

I had a similar experience. For carry guns, I went from a M&P40c, to a Glock 19 Gen3, to a Springfield XDs9, to a Walther PPS-9, to a Glock 26 Gen4, and finally to a Shield 9. Ironically, the Shield was my first choice when I started looking at single stacks, but being a lefty I was a little pissed they didn't reverse the magazine catch, so I avoided it.

I think I'm keeping both my Glock 26 and the M&P9 (NMS). The G26 is more comfortable to shoot (fills my hand), more accurate (for me), has a lighter trigger, and has a shorter grip (I don't care too much about magazine compatibility with other Glocks to be honest).

The Shield, being so thin, is great for summer carry and running (although they're both good all-year-round carrying and running options). I'm really starting to love both these guns. I'd like to round out the carry options with a Gen4 Glock 19.

I posted this elsewhere, but it bears repeating. I found myself with nothing but larger hand guns, which I carried with no problems, but heart surgery changed all that. Carrying "BIG" became less attractive and a little more cumbersome. The Shield filled the bill wonderfully. I can drop it in a pants pocket, I have a Sticky holster coming (love those things, by the way) which allows me to position my firearm anywhere, and until I heal completely, allows me to carry anywhere in complete comfort due to the lack of any weight. The Shield fills my hand, yet I don't have to stretch to reach the trigger or controls. Come Winter, when jeans and jackets are daily wear, I'll carry something a little larger, although I imagine dropping the Shield in a pocket for a quick trip to the grocery store will be very common.

Congrats on your new Shield, good luck and good shooting. :D

Did you get the new Shield without the external safety?

No, they didn't have them. But honestly, it didn't bother me the first time and it was carried daily. I left it off and never had any issues with it "accidentally" going on.
