Back to the 1980’s

Just a short post to remind us of some of the beautiful goodies available back in 1986. This catalog has some great photos of some very fine firearms. I own a model 67 and a 651 so thought I would include those pages. I found the section on available special order sights of interest, hope you do too.

I remember those fine products back then. Wish you could go into a gunstore today and find all of those. But, never again, sad to say. Good times back then.

Presentation case

Hey Bigmoose, thanks for mudding the waters! ? Just about when I think I got these presentation cases figured out, something comes up that totally changes things! On the page with the sight options there is a picture of the presentation case of the day! Note in the caption it states for the 10 5/8" barrel length. There were two case designs made for the Silhouette model. The one pictured and another later one.

The case on the left is the case in the 1986 catalogue, the case on the right is the later case. I have always believed the case on the left was introduced in 1983 with the Silhouette model and the change was made in 1985 to the case on the right(info gathered from a 1985 flyer). I am now more confuuuzzed than when I woke up this morning!

Yes! I remember that time so well.
I was 25 and could focus on the front sight. The stuff that S&W was putting out back then was beautiful!

Ruger1,3, My SW gun catalog collection consists of only 1986 and 1987. Yes, the pinned and recessed guns deserve merit.

I have a Model 65-3 3" from that era. Unfortunately, the counterbore and pinned barrel died in 1982.

Yes, I am old enough to remember when I first saw a Model 29-2 that had a 6" barrel instead of 6.5. I thought, "Is nothing sacred?!"

I very well remember when they quit the 5 screw guns and people were saying that S&W had gone to nothing. In my opinion they still made good guns but they had gone downhill. Larry
