Bad Compensator

My model 41 from approx 1958-59 has been shooting totally left of centre all the time it seems. I noticed the rear site was seized but with good advice from 2 of our fellow members I was able to fix that but the problem persisted. To-day at the range I removed the Compensator from this gun only to discover that the crown was almost non-existent on it. Without it now the gun shoots perfectly true and dead centre. Its almost as if its a brand new gun. I will continue to leave it off of course but I actually like the look of it with the compensator on. Has anyone else ever encountered this before?

The muzzle brake will affect accuracy, especially if it's clogged with lead and powder residue. Have you tried cleaning it out? I remove and soak the entire brake in Hoppes #9 after each shooting session, then clean it out with a .38 cal. nylon brush and plastic pick.

If you decide to leave the brake off, you should use the false muzzle to protect the end of the barrel, similar to the ones pictured below.

Yes I have cleaned this more then once and it made no difference at all. A clean gun is a Happy Gun in my mind. I do not have the false nose cone for mine but do wish I had. Received only the gun with one mag when purchased but at a decent price. Guess I better start looking for one. The compensator looks to be in good shape but has virtually no crown on it according to some older shooters at my club. It really made a difference taking it off tho I can say for sure.
