bad hands, a question

relative has bad hands, left hand is very weak. Many days cant open a bottle of vernors, or a jar of bullion cubes. Or a can of beans.

Suffered a strange almost door knock in this evening. What i was told, a person walked up the front steps and tried pushing in the deadbolted door. could not see any physical damage when i drove over, but strange things have been happening lately. Like the internet cable getting cut YESTERDAY morning before sun up.

I am not sure if a SPEEDLOADER for a revolver would be easy enough to work. Or the cylinder release.

I know there are some commonly considered "easy rack" semi autos, mainly Ruger and Smith and Dunce, uh Wesson, but the smiths seem to have a big issue of holding the slide open on the last round. Id personally go for a pile of preloaded magazines, and just aim, squeeze squeeze to slide lock, drop the empty, reload, yank the slide.

But at same time, im wondering on just getting a charging handle tossed onto it. recover tactical makes add on knobs, but im thinking if someone makes a bolt on AR style charging handle

Tough spot with the relative's weak left hand can't open jars bottles most days plus the sketchy home intrusions cut cable, door rattling priorities are something easy to operate one handed or with minimal grip strength, reliable, and simple under stress.

Revolvers speedloader Not ideal. Speedloaders require decent dexterity fine motor twist knob, align, drop many with arthritis struggle, and cylinder release can be stiff too. Speed strips are even fiddlier. Skip unless it's a lightweight .38 like Ruger LCR easy DA trigger, no slide to rack.

Semi autos Way better path preloaded mags rack once or use weak hand assist is simpler. The easy rack designs shine here

Smith & Wesson M&P Shield EZ 9mm or .380 Built for weak arthritic hands super light slide like racking a .22, easy load mags low spring tension, grip safety. Tons of users with RA swear by it slide racks with pinky strength. No major hold open on last round complaints beyond normal grip thumb riding the lever common on many semis, fixable with practice thumb position.

Ruger Security 380 or Security 9 Similar easy rack slide hammer fired, light recoil spring, manual safety if wanted. Great for weak hands many arthritis folks pick these over EZ for the price availability. Slide racks easy no widespread hold open issues reported.

Walther PDP F Series or PD380 Ergonomic grip tailored for smaller weaker hands, very light slide.

S&W Equalizer EZ platform but higher capacity 10/13/15 even easier mag loading with included tools.

Avoid standard 1911s or full size M&Ps stiffer slides. The Smith hold open thing is usually user grip thumb on slide stop or limp wristing mag issues not inherent flaw.

Add on charging handle Recover Tactical makes AR style ones for Glocks P-IX, etc., some for S&W Shield bolt on, no mods, gives big handle for weak hand racking push pull easier. Works on compatible models, but not universal check for your platform. Cheaper than buying new gun.

First course of action should be to notify your local law enforcement and let them know of the suspicious activities. They should be able to increase drive by's of the neighborhood and perhaps scare away any bad guys. As far as self defense, perhaps in this case, considering your relative's disabilities, forget handguns. A shotgun may be a more practical choice. Even if a semi-auto or pump is too complicated, a side-by-side double barrel (coach gun) 20 ga. with buckshot would suffice.
