Just got a "new" 686 plus SS revolver and the rifling/ crown looks oddly shaped. Have not had a chance to shoot the gun yet so do not know how accurate it is. Is this considered bad rifling or a damaged crown?

Looks like a standard production grade crown.

You could clean it up if yo feel really OCD, or shoot it and see how well it groups

Comparing it to my 686+ the bevel on your crown looks to be a little wider/deeper than mine & somewhat uneven. Try it & see how the accuracy is. Hopefully it'll shoot fine.

Re-crowned 686+

After being disappointed with my newly purchased 625PC's crown, & a few of my older revolvers too, I decided to purchase what I needed to re-crown them from Brownell's.

Here's before & after pictures.
