I'd never use it (or any other such product) in an enclosed area. You need an open space and/or good ventilation. The dirty feet smell of Ballistol will linger about as long as the real thing.I've never used ballistol.......& based on y'alls comments it must have a strong/bad smell. Just one question: How long does the smell hang around after you've used it?

Simple Mineral Oil and Oleic Acid (the fatty acid found in animal and plant oil and fat).
Some alchohol, perfume and presto the best dern gun oil ever. Great for leather, wood, your quirky elbow and gramps old pocket watch.
It does work good.
I just always wonder why we need all the super lubes constantly heaped onto the market as better than the last one .
Ballistol labelled "Hausmittel" ("home remedy") is available on Amazon, although it's a bit pricey with shipping. Lots of good reviews. I wonder if it's also put up in a sterile bottle, which wouldn't be needed for the regular product.... It is also good for minor cuts and skin irritations, but in the US it can't be labeled for that use unless submitted to the FDA for testing and approval, or something like that...
That would explain the smell!Contains many powerful essential oils for example mint oil and aniseed
You clearly live alone in a remote area. As an unusual alternative to Limburger & onion, you might consider Stinking Bishop cheese and durian. As a side benefit, smeared on the lintels of your doors it will not only make the angel of death pass by, but burglars as well.I use it to clean my guns, which I do while eating a Limburger cheese and onion sandwich. I never noticed a smell.

A blast from your UK past, Rustyt1953?
You probably could use a good dose of Beyond the Fringe as well, and maybe even The Goon ShowBetween that and the Saint Crispin's Day thread I'm having a proper weep....
