Ballistol

Look on the interwebs for free shipping....: less than $25 will get you a lot considering it's used by the drops.

If social media would have never mentioned its smell......

I've never used ballistol.......& based on y'alls comments it must have a strong/bad smell. Just one question: How long does the smell hang around after you've used it?

Don
I'd never use it (or any other such product) in an enclosed area. You need an open space and/or good ventilation. The dirty feet smell of Ballistol will linger about as long as the real thing.

Ballistol and Tetra both smell pretty bad, but they have worked beyond my expectations. Just need wipe things down with Hoppes afterwards. :D

Maximus truthus....

However Ballistol is safer and not headache causing to me like Hoppe's Solvent and Butch's Bore Shine in an enclosed area.

Simple Mineral Oil and Oleic Acid (the fatty acid found in animal and plant oil and fat).
Some alchohol, perfume and presto the best dern gun oil ever. Great for leather, wood, your quirky elbow and gramps old pocket watch.

It does work good.
I just always wonder why we need all the super lubes constantly heaped onto the market as better than the last one .

I like it a lot, but I wish the manufacturer would do something to get rid of the sweatty gym sock smell. Geeezz!

The smell lasts a few days. It is bad.

I use it on my black powder guns. I used it yesterday and today, and if I had been using typical gun cleaners and solvents, my hands would be dried out and chapped. Instead, they feel like they have hand lotion on them.

It cleans brass and copper, and is great for leather. It is also good for minor cuts and skin irritations, but in the US it can't be labeled for that use unless submitted to the FDA for testing and approval, or something like that.

I just bought a new can of it yesterday. BTW, the stuff in the aerosol can is thinned so it will flow through the nozzle. Get the stuff in the non-pressurized can for the full strength product. It will flow through a spray bottle pump without difficulty.

Ballistol labelled "Hausmittel" ("home remedy") is available on Amazon, although it's a bit pricey with shipping. Lots of good reviews. I wonder if it's also put up in a sterile bottle, which wouldn't be needed for the regular product.
Contains many powerful essential oils for example mint oil and aniseed
That would explain the smell!

I use it to clean my guns, which I do while eating a Limburger cheese and onion sandwich. I never noticed a smell.
You clearly live alone in a remote area. As an unusual alternative to Limburger & onion, you might consider Stinking Bishop cheese and durian. As a side benefit, smeared on the lintels of your doors it will not only make the angel of death pass by, but burglars as well.

Looking at the list of Ballistol products and the various areas where they say it can be used reminded me of an old (c 1960) song by the English comedy duo Flanders & Swann about a new miracle product called The Wompom
