That's OK, you can eat as much of that artificial simulated hydrogenated oil with other assorted chemicals as it's not bad for you.:D

Much like the artificial sweeteners and diet sodas, it is pretty much weened. I dropped all soda in 2002 which was really good and I had already dropped the sweeteners. Now I have a couple of tea spoons of this butter stuff.

I despise the need for any kind of government intrusion in diet but I also despise the growing debt associated with Medicare/Medicaid that is impacted by the issue. It is a conundrum that has very few real answers that don't involve some sort of "carrot".

Hillbillly, congratulations on getting your life in order. God is good.

McBear, as I read your posts, I can only shake my head and wonder why you would want more government intrusion foisted on our lives. Nothing the government gets involved with goes well. Usually it creates a burden and causes increases in cost to the general public.
Some great examples would be: the 55 mph law imposed on the states( I would surmmize that government coffers got a boost from speeding fines); turning down thermosats in buildings( mandated in government buildings, running up the cost of electricity because of reduced Kw hours but the same fixed costs for generation, so nothing saved but less dollars in our pocket; the approaching increase for vehicle CAFE( all cost for the development and installation will increase car cost); also the possible mandate to install black boxes in all vehicles, same thing, all cost for the purchasing public plus their ability to collect all sorts of information about travels, speed, etc.

Our Founding Fathers realized what a danger a central government could be and tried to guard against it. Unfortunately, over the generations, the American people have let the Federal government creep into their lives and a large number look to the nanny state for a solution to all problems.
We were given a gift at others expense, past Patriots, and we as a nation have very nearly destroyed it with this developed dependence on the Fed.

Freedom is the opportunity to make choses, good or bad, and live with them. Do away with this welfare state that has been create and live with the results of ones choses. Do not expect the public to pay for these life choses. Care for the old and the orphans, this is Biblical, others need to work for their daily bread. Does this sound harsh? Probably in our modern society, but 100 years ago and before it was the way society functioned.

I do not want anyone to think I am hard hearted. I give time and money to charities, hospitals, church, etc. That is expected of a Christian but I am tired of supporting a welfare system that is trying to redistribute wealth.

LOL Yeah...that's what big food has so many people fooled into thinking. The AHA still touts margarine as "heart healthy" and it's anything but!

Just eat some butter. Real butter.

I'm fired up. I just gave my brother the "Scary dairy" talk today while he was here.

*******s! I will not go quietly...I swear I will have my soda!

Cordwood, well said! My problem with all these goverment mandated regulations is I dont trust these "experts" that think they know better and make the rules. Everday on the news we see goverment appointed officals being raked over the coals for makeing huge mistakes. Eric holder, tim geigner etc. You cant watch the news without seeing new daily reports of mispending, graft, corruption, coverups, unqualified appointments, bad management and no common sense. And we should give these people more power? Why do/should people trust them? Why do they elect them twice?
A druggie will sell his mother for a fix. A drunk will also do anything for a drink. Many intelligent men will risk their marrage, familys and careers for a few minuets of something new. (John Edwards) Many will gamble their last dollar when their family has needs. Do we really think laws and regulations are going to stop them?
Countless founding fathers through american history and many of our fathers fought and died to keep this country clean of communism and socialism. Now many here want to gladly give it up! Like that new saying go`s, hows that been working for ya? (us)

If you read ALL my posts you would see that I despise government intrusion. But I also despise the increased load coming up on Medicare and Medicaid that we as taxpayers have been paying for each and every paycheck since we began working.

The conundrum is that we want to solve the problems without government intrusion but history has shown that with many problems we have been functionally unable to do so without that prodding. I hesitate to bring up healthcare but the private, corporate health providers have had decades to solve the problems inherent in the healthcare system that we have. They failed to solve the problems and allowed costs to skyrocket. The causes are many but since profits jumped 250% in the decade of 2000-2010, that has to be one of them. And the only thing the industry did to work on the national healthcare system was to hire lobbyists to maintain the status quo.

At some point, when folks fail and fail it is time for someone else to step in and solve the problem. On some issues that are extremely large that is the government.

You mention CAFE standards. I am watching cars slipstream into the nation's fleet on a daily basis. Volts, Fiskers, Hybrids, new technology Mercedes...all part of the normal development cycle - which is ALWAYS passed to the consumer. Those extended CAFE standards will never be given the credit when we, over time no longer need to depend on foreign oil. We can let China and India buy middle eastern oil and we won't need it. They can deal with the problems in that area then. We won't need to. And the trillions we save by not having a war there again will go to something else or stay with the wage earner or pay down the debt.

I don't like government intrusion. But I don't like festering problems that require a solution but there is nobody else big enough to step up and solve it.

We are not are father's America. That country only had 125 Million people and no global economic competition.

This has been happening. Saw several articles in the news. Kids lunches brought from home do get 'inspected' and rated for nutritional value. If they fall short , the kid gets items from the cafeteria , the parents get a bill and meeting with child welfare people.

So be careful about cutting the crust off those PBJ sammwiches.

In many schools a PBJ sammwich can get a student suspended if there is a peanut allergic child in the school. Schools have started to ban all peanut containing products from carried -in lunches just in case a student would share!
My local elementary school does this.

How far do we go? Wheat allergy? Ban bread. Tomato allergy there goes the ketchup and tomato soup. Lactose intolerant- ban milk and cheese. Religious beliefs- ban ham, ban beef. Let's legislate our selves to complete safety...STUPID.

ya know, its not about what you eat, its about what you do. Im not trying to brag or anything so ill just say this. I am between 12-14% bodyfat and 220-230 pounds weekly, im 5'10. I eat A LOT of oreos and drink sweet tea regularly, doesnt seem to be hurting me. I also work out 6 days a week and run/use the elliptical 30 minutes a day. im 27 years old............ they need to ban lazy instead of food/drink.

We had a 12 oz can of coke classic in the fridge, according to the label it contains 140 calories. If my calculator is right that is 11.66 calories per ounce X 32 oz will equal 372 calories, (not 600). Probably the average fountain drink includes maybe 10-15% ice which would reduce the calorie count even more.
So, at the same McD's where I cannot buy a 32oz drink because it is unhealthy they can sell me 32 oz. triple chocolate shakes all day. That shake contains 1160 calories, 27 g of total fat, 16 g of saturated fat and 2 g of trans fats.

So does that make any sense?
Most soft drinks use high fructose corn syrup as their sweetner

So if I drive into NY to visit from the great state of Washington, and I have my 32 oz. Big Gulp cup with me...what happens?
They got people at the border like CA to find out if I have illegal cups? Am I grandfathered in since I'm from a different country (almost)? Or do they throw the book at me? Do I need to buy two 16oz sodas to fill up my Big Gulp? I'm confused......

I think the "original" example was the 64oz Big Gulp and that as it has been rewritten time and again it moves from 64 to 32 to in one case a 96oz movie keg. All had the same 600 calorie number...just lazy journalists not doing the math.

And yes, the shake has more issues regarding fat. I would not be surprised if, at some point in the future we don't see taxes on fat content much like we have on tobacco and alcohol...another "sin" tax. But many favor that...tax only those who use the product or service and allow those who do not to not have to pay. It will not be pretty.

Guys...thanks for the good conversation this evening. Time to hit the sack...early morning petting from TSA and a noon meeting at Ft Meade. As project manager I am SUPPOSE to look alert. At least we are functional, on time and under budget.

You are protected by BGOPA, provided you keep it unloaded and in the trunck of your vehicle.

Never ever try to pass through an NYC airport with a Big Gulp.

And note, if you pack a Big Gulp in your luggage and there is a chance your plane may get diverted to NYC--start drinking quick, and get yourself to the lavatory before the Captian turns on the seat-belt fastened sign.

I am here to tell you folks that Oreo cookie cream is one of the most dangerous substances known to man.

At least when it's spilled on the floor. :D

I used to work security in a Nabisco plant that made DS Oreos. While on patrol in the plant one night, I stepped on a "glop" of Oreo stuffing that had probably falled off the side of a waste truck. On a smooth concrete floor that stuff was as slippery as snot on a doorknob. I almost killed myself slipping and sliding down that hallway.

On the other hand, I would have come in first in a break dancing contest I'm sure.

I doubt if there isnt someone somewhere that isnt allergic to everything there is. My wife is highly allergic to anything that has lemon in it. Awhile back she had some bbq pork ribs. She got deathly sick and upchucked all over. Then they checked and found that there was lemon in the bbq sauce. These do gooders want to stop the world because someone somewhere might get sick. My wife has learned to ask about anything in a resturant that she isnt sure of.

Bloomberg is a poor politician - a good one would put a sin tax on everything larger than 12oz. and make a buck off the big soda drinkers - he won't go far in the political scene.
