When he posed for that photo, he also had a Winchester 1894 with him. The cartridges in the belt look to long to fit a revolver. Compare them to the knife handle.

It may be my poor eyesight, but don't those cartridges look more like a necked down case, like the 32-20? Guessing at these old photos is always interesting, and most often, in the end, nobody knows who was right anyway. LOL! That was an interesting story.

You may be correct. I know the .357 wasn’t around then nor the .38 special, right? They’re too long for .38 s&w.
Unless he has very large hands, they don’t look to be .44 or .45 caliber.

The .38 Special is around since 1898.

He was shot in Mexico by a Reluctant firing squad headed by an American Soldier of Fortune fighting in the Revolution.
