Anyone know when Bar Sto is coming out with a replacement barrel for the M&P? I am hoping that their barrel will improve the accuracy of the gun.

What kind of accuracy problems are you having? My M&P45 I much more accurate than I could ever be. I printed sub 2" groups at 8 yards with it. I admittedly an not the greatest shooter, but sub 2" is awesome for me, and I think that could get tighter shooting from a rest.
To answer your question. Who knows? If they haven't released one by now they may never. Try dropping them an e-mail and ask them.

Bar-sto pared down their line a few years ago, before moving their operation from California to South Dakota. It never hurts to call and ask Irving Stone. He is a super nice guy, but he will clearly let you know what his company will and wont do.

I got they're email newsletter on 04-05-12 and it said:

Apex/Bar-Sto Barrels-

We've been working tirelessly with our friends at Bar-Sto Precision to get the Apex / Bar-Sto barrel into production. The material is on order and the process is nearly ready to begin. We're still expecting a release no sooner than August or September.

So it's coming along. The good news is it looks like they will be testing these things a lot, since he said the process is about ready to begin. So hopefully we'll see consistent 1.3 to 1.85" groups out to 25 yards with the fitted one. I assume it'll be 1.75" - 2.0" groups with the drop in barrel, but I'm sure that will probably only be with half of the ammo out there though. Or maybe if we all keep posting the fitted barrel ones will have 0.80" to 1.25" groupings then he'll have to make them that way, just kidding, but it'd be nice. There is only so much you can do with any platform.

Apex Tactical is also working on a new "Locking Block" that should improve accuracy for all current guns, even without the Bar-Sto barrel.

This is a post from Randy over on M4Carbine.net :

Hi All,

One of the many projects I have on my bench is a new locking block that should extend the dwell time and prevent premature unlocking with the factory barrel.

I realize that there are many who would rather not pay for an aftermarket barrel plus fitting. The locking block should be an economical improvement for accuracy.

What the new block will mean for those with a new Apex/Bar-Sto barrel? Early experiments with extending dwell time showed that the delayed unlocking resulted in a softer shooting pistol. The longer we could extend the dwell time (within reason anyways) the softer the recoil sensation.

So I'm excited about both of these coming down the line. I also look forward to the Apex M&P 22lr conversion.

I'd like to add, I wish Apex would move to a place like South Dakota also (cheaper taxes...), then maybe the FSS & Trigger would go from $160 down to $140 or $150. Of course now that they got a new office, not going to happen anytime soon. It would be nice though.

I have the same issue with my 9mm. No issues with the 45acp. Some how, group gets really sucky beyond 15 ft. Sent the gun back to S&W and they said it is within the designed parameters.

Tried different ammos and it produced the same results.

The first 500 new M&P barrels from Bar-Sto are going directly to Apex. They are still in the testing stage and Apex is expecting them in the August to September range. Apex does not have a waiting list. Bar-Sto has a waiting list for after the first 500. No prices or part numbers yet.

Im guessing in the 200 range, their other makes are in that range and more

Terrible S&W factory barrels for M&P . . . .

There is a well known problem with the S&W M&P barrel. They unlock too soon, and that enlarges 25 yard groups to 5" or more with MOST of the M&Ps.

I have (2) M&Ps. Both are .40 cal. and they rarely beat that level of performance. I have installed several APEX barrels in 9mm M&Ps they all now shoot consistent 1" groups off sandbags with the Vortex Venom reflex sight and the APEX trigger.

So . . . . I recently installed a .40 cal. Bar-Sto barrel (because APEX doesn't currently make a .40 cal. barrel). This Bar-Sto barrel now helps the M&P shoot 1" groups at 25 yards . . . .

HOWEVER . . . . The extreme amount of time to fit a Bar-Sto barrel makes this a massive project, and it occasionally fails to fully lock in battery with perfectly good dummy rounds. I've found that the Bar-Sto "Match" barrel comes without several machine operations, and the fitting job is twenty times more difficult than fitting any APEX barrel. (Bar-Sto charges $175. to fit one of their own M&P barrels).

This .40 cal. M&P with the Bar-Sto barrel cycles perfectly without ammo. It feeds great with ammo, and it also extracts fine . . . . but it intermittently fails to fully lock in battery with a "known good round" in the chamber.

This is a mystery . . . . I've heard this is a common occurrence with the Bar-Sto barrel. I've tried loosening up the barrel fit .001" at a time (more than what allowed it to function without ammo). Let me know if anyone has a fix for this.

(I don't need any guesses.)
