This may not be the correct place but here goes. A NIB Colt SAA in .44 special. 3rd gen approx 1978-82. 7 1/2 barrel. Through the years I have managed to
pick up a 4 3/4 barrel and cylnder both mint Colt .44 SPL factory nickel. I have thought of making the swap to create a "Pinto" piece. Would this be wise? or better to sell what I have and find a better donor. One not so pristine as mine? perhaps a very nice used one would be the way to go. Who could do the work? Colt only or other? Would the ejector though blue work? Answers please?

If the one you have is truly NIB,,I'd keep it that way and sell it in that condition.
Top $$ for it in that condition.

Buy something else to 'convert' to a pinto 44spcl.

Also,,being a 3rd generation,,the Cylinder (the ratchet in particular) is specific to the 3rd generation guns.
The Hand is as well to operate the 3rd generation cylinder ratchet.

You Can use a 3rd generation cylinder in a 1st or 2nd generation gun IF you also put a 3rd Generation Hand in the gun with it.

Also the Bbl (threads) on a 3rd generation SAA bbl won't fit a 1st or 2nd generation frame.

So depending on what extra parts you have in 44special, it may limit what generation pistol you go shopping for. They might not even be a fit for the NIB gun you have. I don't know what generation the 44specl cyl and bbl are.
