My father has several K frame S&W revolvers and most are model 10. He has one model 10 I've never seen before. It's a model 10 with skinny 5" barrel and rounded butt. According to my father he acquired that revolver around 1959 or 1960 from one of his customer...but he could be wrong as his memory is not so good now. How common or rare is this model 10? I've seen many 5" skinny barrel models and I've seen many with round butt but I've never seen one with 5" skinny barrel and round butt.

That partly depends on whether it is actually a Model 10. Please provide photos, including one of the butt. At the very least, tell us the serial number on the butt (include whether a letter appears in front of the digits).

Is the gun model marked, or is it a M&P with no model number marked in the yoke cut? I ask because so many refer to all M&P revolvers as model 10s, regardless of when they were made! If you get a chance to have the gun in-hand simply swing the cylinder out and look in the yoke cut. If the gun is not marked there "model 10" it is not a M-10 but an earlier
Named Model". As Jack asked, show us some photos if possible.

A 5" RB Model 10 is not common if they exist at all. From 1899 to the early 1950s the 5" RB is very common. 5" barrels and round butts were extremely popular during that time period, especially from 1899 to pre- WWII.

And the proper nomenclature is "standard barrel", not skinny barrel or pencil barrel. M&P barrels are either standard or heavy.
