Hello all,

My apologies if I don't have the right terminology here. I'm still pretty new to the world of firearms. I purchased a CSX E series about a month ago and so far, I absolutely love it. I've put about 1000 rounds through it. Yesterday I took it to the range and brought it back home for a basic cleaning. As I was wiping down the excess oil with a cloth, I noticed the cloth catching on a piece of metal from the outside of the barrel where the slide lock is. I haven't fired it since I noticed it, and it very well may have been there the whole time. I'm not sure if this is just cosmetic, or if I should contact S&W. Thanks for any advice!!

It looks like there has been a slight burr raised in the front edge of the slide stop cutout in the slide. It should not affect operation at all. You should be able to dress the raised edge ONLY down with a fine stone. You could also possibly peen the burr back down by lightly tapping the burred edges down flush with the slide using a small smooth faced hammer, preferably brass. The slide is stainless so you don't have to worry about it rusting with normal care.
After unloading my EDC CSX and working with it, the only way I can see this burr occurring is if the slide is coming back and making contact with interior of the slide stop as the slide travels rearward. You may be putting upward pressure or bumping up the slide stop while shooting the pistol. The next time you are shooting, watch or better yet, have someone else watch your grip on the left side at the slide stop. You may need to re-adjust or modify your grip.

Thanks for the response. And that is very possible, about the grip. However, I shoot left handed and this burr is on the left side of the barrel. My grip is primarily placed on the right side. If that makes sense? I'm not sure if that would make a difference here. If this burr is purely cosmetic, I have no issues. I would only care if the operation of it was at risk. Plus, anyone who does shoot this gun right handed, they may be at risk of cutting their finger where the burr is? You're right...I may have to file it down.

Actually, you shooting left handed makes even more sense to me now. I would bet that the top edge of the base of your trigger finger (third section?) is pushing up on the bottom of the left side slide stop, pushing it up into contact with the slide as it moves rearward in recoil.

Ahh, interesting. That makes total sense actually. I'll keep that in mind next time I shoot. Thanks!!!

what am I missing here.....I see a slide..I don't see a Barrel...

He admits that he's new to firearms and just had his terminology a tad confused. His issue is clearly on his slide.
We all made mistakes when we started. This site is a welcoming and valuable source of information for those just learning.
