I have a couple of those no barrel model 10's that J&G had a couple of years ago. I also have a 2" .38 SPL barrel for one so I think that is no trouble right? The frame serial is AVY7836, a 10-7, The 2 inch hand tightens to 4:30, viewed from the muzzle.

The other is a 10-6, 2D92388 and i have a 5 inch .38 SPL that tightens to about 4 and i guess I'll need at least a new ejector rod. Is the rod all that I have to replace in this case? Oh, the 2 inch also doesn't have the locking bolt, spring or pin so I need them.

I'm luck that I am near a college that offers NRA gunsmithing classes in the summer and one class is S&W Doub le Action revolver, a 5 day 40 hr course where I'll be able to do this work under expert guidance with a full machine shop available!

If the barrel won't clock up, you'll need to put it in a lathe and shave a few thousandths off until it's right. A small task for a machinist with a lathe. Basic gunsmithing.

I love the round butt four inch. The thinking mans snubby, really, since once you go K frame you are talking holster. And inside the waistband, a four inch hides as well as a two inch, and has the advantage of a longer ejector rod and sight radius. Great chance to make a super carry revolver!
