Found barrel nut loose again . I'm torque down to 19 foot lbs. needs somthing like locktite on the threads . I know locktite 271(Red) is too strong . I don't think you every get loose again . Haven't tryed medium strength (blue) yet . Does anyone have any idea what would work best . Shot somewhere around 1000 rounds.

In the Notable Thread Index it was suggested that a bit of fingernail polish will keep the barrel but from loosening while still being able to remove if/when needed.

Recommend removing the barrel, then putting a single dot of low strength locktite (purple) on the threads. Let it dry overnight. Then reassemble the next morning. The locktite will already be dry but will add a bit of drag to the nut.

No it is an M&P 15-22 .I forgot about someone using finger nail polish . I like the idea about dry locking compound.

???? Who says 19 ft./lbs. is correct. I have not seen this posted by Smith, has anyone asked them the correct number? ................Plum

I would email S&W about it and try to fix the problem instead of putting a band-aid on it. This isn't happening to every 15-22 so why should it happen to yours?

If that isn't the route you want to go, try a dab of honey.....seriously.

Thanks guys , Already reinstall barrel nut using auto paint as thread locker after installed & torque nut down to 25 lbs. Called ,S&W couldn't tell me what the torque was ,they said barrel nut is installed with a machine and didn't know what the machine was set at. Operator of that machine was gone to lunch at the time.

Teflon tape. It's used by folks to "index" their muzzle breaks so it should handle the heat with no problem.

According to DuPont its melting point is 327 °C (620.6 °F).

Fairly common. Belt_Fed has had several 15-22s sent to him having a loose barrel nut. The owners didn't realize it was loose.

Make sure the threads on the barrel and in the nut are as clean and dry as possible. Use acetone or electric cleaner that leaves no residue, then assemble.
If anybody gets a real torque spec from S&W...Please share it.
