Barrel Shroud

I was looking at this sites barrel shrouds. Are they just for looks or do they serve a purpose.

The only use the barrel shroud has is to prevent the user from being burned by a hot barrel.

I personally don't like the look of those kind. If you dig it, it don't matter what I think . But yea, the main reason anyone gets them is to make the gun look cool .
