The accuracy in my SD40VE is not so good, I was wondering if you can swap out the barrel from and m&p and put it in the SD40VE? Will it fit? I figured the m&p is similar to the SD40VE and maybe it will improve the accuracy on the Gun. Has anyone tryed it?

What is "accuracy is not so good"? We could use a little more info. about the accuracy issues, in order to help you out. Come on, give us the skinny! :-)

How did you establish the fact that the gun was not accurate?

Cause I can't hit anything after 5 yards, the gun shoots low and far to the left. Couldn't even hit the big paper target(3'x3') anywhere at the range at 25 yards.

First question, is it a new gun with problem at outset or older gun which once shot well and then developed this problem? You apparently have at least one other similar gun. How does it perform for you?

Anyhow-

1. Is this consistent? That is, if you aim at a specific point, do the bullets always go to another specific point? In gunfolk talk, how large is your pattern?

2. If someone else shoots your gun, do they have results similar to your results?

If 1 and 2, you may have a sight adjustment problem, however You seem to be describing a problem beyond the range of sight movement.

If your pattern is large and inconsistent your gun may not be returning to the same battery position, that is an indication that your gun needs cleaning or major repair. Without pointing in a dangerous direction between shots, can you verify that the barrel is in exactly the same position from shot to shot? My limited analysis of my SD9 tells me that the barrel position is sensitive the the behavior of the slide blocker, that is the little take down bar. Have a look at that.

Anxiously waiting for your response before asking more questions.

Have you made any "upgrades" to that gun? If so, when?

Some people find this helpful. I was doing the same thing when I first got my Shield. As far as the barrels go, right off the bat, your going to have a problem with barrel length. Yours is 4
inches, M&P 40s have, 5, 4.25, 3.5, and 3.1.

How do you know, did you try it?

No, I've had both barrels in my hand, and they are not even close to the same.

The Sigmas and SDs are the same series of pistols, and share several parts like magazines.
The only thing the SD shares with the M&P series is the sight slots and the trigger return springs.

If you look at the schematics on Brownells website, you can read the S&W parts numbers for your self.

You could Have at least installed it to see if it really does not function at all and racking the slide back, to see if the shells extract out of the gun. The sdve is so identical to the m&p I figured it might work. A glock 19/23 guide rod works in the sdve pistol. So how can you say it does not work if you did not even try to install it?

Got the gun new, did no upgrades, gun is clean. Gun performs well no ftf, things like that. It just shoots inconsistent on the target, lots of flyers, maybe atleast a foot pattern spread at 10-20 feet or worse. shoots low, way to the left. i would not aim at someones head if i was trying to do a head shot cause it wont happen. This reminds me of a taurus pt 24/7 (45cal.) I had, i could not hit a gallon water jug at 10 feet with this thing!! I read reviews on cabelas gun store who got the sdve and most of them were real good, however couple of them said they could not hit anything with in five feet with it.

If you have ownership of both guns I don't understand why you are asking someone else, someone I know is very knowledgeable, to try swapping the barrels. If you have both models just compare the barrels yourself.

How do you know the shoe fits if you don't try it on?

Do you own both guns? If you do, just try it yourself and at your own risk.
Right?!? The OP sounds like he's trying to be difficult about this barrel swap business. He seems to argue with about anything people are putting out there to help.

Gunnutt - Please post the Serial Numbers of the two guns you are discussing.

This thread sure went south.

I didn't see where the OP said he owned both guns, he just asked if the barrel would fit. Some of the replies were rude and chiding and that's not how we operate here. We want people to come to this forum for information; let's not drive them away.

To the OP... I realize there's lots of misinformation on the internet, but challenging every response is not the way to solicit help. If you refuse to accept the opinion of experienced owners, phone S&W and ask them.

We're done here.
