Barrel Threading for Cali Guys

Hey guys I have finally found a good gunssmith in Southern Cali who isn't scared of the DOJ to do legal work (Threading our 15-22 barrel). I called so many different gunsmiths and I thought I was going to be doomed to ship it until I found him. It seems all the gunsmiths out here are scared to death of the DOJ and are scared to do 'evil' mods even if they are legal because its a "gray area". I'm sure some of you guys are from California and would like a threaded barrel so I'll save you the phone footwork. He does it for $30 bucks which includes crown work. He'll do it right in front of you while you wait. Just wanted to share with you guys because I know from experience how hard it is to find a smith in Cali to do this. I'm not associated with him in anyway I'm just a happy customer and just wanted to give a heads up.

Ok im a newb here but to let you know the "grey" area for the most part wont be found legal in a court of law here in California. Id love to have a threaded barrel but i prefer to stay in the green.

If it wasn't legal for rimfires then the Ruger and the colt .22's wouldnt have the flash supressors either.

I believe that .22's are exempt from all of the assault rifle features, except, for ten round magazines.
That is because the law specifically states, that an assault weapon, is a centerfire, with the defined features.

Oops sorry I broke the law about the forums thing. I'm not advertising the forum though, just giving an alternative method to get a hold of the guy because it seems he checks his PM's on there more than his e-mail. Bruce hit the nail on the head as far as why its ok the thread the barrel.

That's one nail to hit on the head. The one that I like the best is Cal. Penal Code section 12276.5, which says, "Any .22 caliber rimfire rifle, or any other firearm firing .22 caliber rimfire ammunition that is a copy of a firearm listed in section 12276 [the banned assault weapons list], is exempt from the definition of an 'assault weapon.'"

As previously stated in this thread, the rimfires are still not allowed to use magazines of greater than 10 rounds per another section of the penal code. In general, pre-ban magazines (I forget the exact date, but it's a while back) that can hold greater than 10 rounds are grandfathered in. Obviously, there is no such thing as a pre-ban15-22 magazine, so the 10 round limit is 100% applicable to 15-22's in Cal.

I dont think its gray at all. Rifles are fine with threaded barrels, pistols are no go. Visit [ADVERTISING OF OTHER FORUMS IS NOT PERMITTED] for all the info on the AW laws. Rifles with less that 16" barrels must have the flash hider pinned and soldered to keep the OAL over 16". If you have a centerfire rifle with evil features, it must have a magazine lock and 10 round or less magazine. If you go featureless no flash hider, no pistol grip, etc, you can use legally owned highcaps and no magazine lock. I have 5 AR's (.22, 9mm, 5.45, and 5.56) and a HK 41 in 7.62 and they all have threaded barrels. All have magazine locks except the .22 and all have 10 round mags.

Nobody got dinged for advertising another Forum here. I edited the postings in BIG CAPS as a PSA for all because it is an easy mistake to make and typically folks are just trying to help others when doing so.
