I found this barrel today and want to sell it but need to identify it for potential buyers. If you can help it would be good. It is blue steel and complete with underbarrel spring loaded pin. It is a fairly heavy design but not a bull barrel type. The total overall length is 4 an 1/8 inches. It has a raised top rib with about 11 longitudinal small ribs and a front sight. The right side says .22 long rifle ctg. The left side smith & wesson. There is some holster wear of the bluing, on the front on both sides. The threads are good and show a cut for the pin at the top. Rifling is good and crisp and shiny. Can you tell which model this was from? Do you think this may bring $60 if I pay shipping? Mike

It could be either a Kit Gun or .22 Combat Masterpiece from your description. They have different barrel shank, the threaded portion, diameters. If you have a dial caliper of micrometer tell us what the shank diameter is and then it can be identified. If there is a serial number on the bottom flat of the barrel we need that too to differentiate between an Improved-I or J Frame barrel, they have different lengths to the shank.

OK .538 inch, measured over the threads, is the closest I can figure. I was in combat and I would be very reticent to call a .22, a combat masterpiece! S&W did funny things didn't they? Also there is a flat under the barrel but nothing is there.

The K-22 barrel will have a ramp front sight on top of a base, kind of a raised extension of the top rib. The Kit Gun front sight is also a ramp, but with no base.

That barrel is for a .22 Combat Masterpiece which has a nominal .540x36 thread. Someone probably replaced the 4" with a 6" K-38 barrel for target shooting. Or possibly with a 2" CM barrel.
