I have a chance to buy an S&W 1911 in .45 ACP that appears to be one of the early basic guns. I only have one picture, but it looks to be in great shape with a nice, blued finish (mammoth grips not included). Owner says it has very few rounds through it and comes with the box. I had one of these (I think it's the same model) shortly after S&W started making 1911s and it was a nice gun with a decent trigger, but a bit loose slide to frame fit. As I recall, it was reliable and accurate, but it's been a bunch of years since I owned it. Anyone have any input on this model? Thanks.

These are fine 1911s. 106825 model I think. Let me double check the model

Model 108285. Great 1911. Carried one at work for many years. Never one single issue.

How much is he asking?

S&W 1911s have the external extractor rather than the original design internal. Makes no real difference for me, seems to work as well.

Used S&W 1911s seem to float from low of about $700.00 to $900.00 with "Hail Mary" pricing well above. New made look around $1,100.00 in stainless. But ....

You're in CA and the pickings are limited regarding 1911s. Likely you can get that S&W 1911 only via FFL PPT. So if you have the hots for the gun and the current CA resident owner is willing to sell - it's a solid gun with a few extras. Grips are definitely a "personal choice".

Re slide to frame fit, over the last few years CNC has gotten much better and tolerances have tightened up quite a bit. Slide to frame, hood and link fitment, bushing to barrel and frame have all improved.

FWIW, you may want to hit a LGS (Sac has River City Gun Exchange off Fruitridge) and see what they have for new for comparison.

If the price is right, nothing wrong with the S&W if it fits your liking.

While I don't take offense to having my prior post in this thread deleted, I do question the reasoning why, I was told that I couldn't offer anything for sale on these threads, I didn't offer anything for sale, my intent is not to be argumentative, but to the moderator who deleted it I respectfully ask that you PM me and include what ever I posted to make you believe I was offering any item for sale.
Again, I'm not posing an argument, I'm respectfully asking because I want to avoid doing whatever I did again.
Thank you, Flinter 2

I will post if I get a response if allowed, all I did was reply to the OP's question asking for an opinion, I said I had two examples and that I thought they were great shooters and very reliable. period.
I joined this forum in 2021 I've visited often since then but haven't posted until now, I hold memberships in several different forums for many years and have never been reprimanded for any violation of the rules, and I as far as I'm concerned I haven't violated any here either, it's only my fifth post, I'm assuming that it's only a misunderstanding on the part of the moderator, I guess we just wait and see.
Thanks for asking.

If the price is right, jump on it, you won't be disappointed, just be sure to check it out well before buying, allot of newbies buy 1911's that are good out of the box but can't help modding them until they malfunction, then they sell them to someone else along with the problem.
Good luck with your choice.
