I've wanted to try a S&W 1911 for some time now and came across this:

"S&W Gunsite 1911 Commander Scandium frame .45ACP. Factory box, 2 mags. Very accurate. Good trigger. Has minor holster wear and missing gold bead from front sight."
It sounds like a shooter quality piece and will be used as such.

Without seeing any pictures, what would a fair price be for this? I've requested pictures so will post them if and when I get them.
Also, I've read that they have some MIM parts that may or may not pose a potential problem in the future. What's your experience with these?
Thanks

I have four S&W 1911s, two Performance Center and two E-Series models, three .45ACPs and one .38 Super. None has given me a hint of a problem. I previously had four Kimber 1911s but replaced them with S&Ws because of Kimber's poor customer service. Conversely, I sent one of my S&W PC guns back for a perceived problem and the gunsmith working on it actually called me to suggest the condition would correct itself with use, which it did. Kimber returned unrepaired guns with warranty invoices stating "Replaced small parts."

I also have an E series. Very reliable, accurate. I have modified it slightly with a FO front sight, VZ grips and a magwell. These are not mandatory mods, rather what I wanted to do while I was using it in my IDPA games.

I always thought the S&W 1911s never get the respect they deserve. A quality made gun that will serve you well.

S&W 1911's

I really appreciate my S&W E Series 1911TA. All Stainless .45 with a tactical rail. This is not a traditional 1911 but I shot so many of the S&W 1911 models as well as colts kimbers, para, etc only to find that this is the one for me...took a couple of years research.

Scandium frames are lighter but the heft of all steel and the heaviness and extra metal of the integrated rail mitigates recoil, plus, in my opinion, looks amazing even though I will never put a light on it. Good luck with your decision.

My Gunsmith speaks very highly of them.
The S&W 1911 is the only new Smith I would buy.

My recently acquired Ruger SR 1911 feeds, fire, ejects, has a no-movement (after the slack has been taken up) 4.5 pound trigger pull. The adjustable rear sight is fabulous. It prints 3 shot groups 1.5 inches at 25 yards. I don’t think my gun is anything special. I think all new guns made on CNC machines will do the same thing. To say the 1911 is a proven design, is the understatement of the century.

As I have stated in earlier posts, my 1911 PC is the most accurate 1911 45 I have ever owned, and I have had many. It was a real bargain in my opinion, both for features and accuracy.
