Went up to NYC for the Holiday weekend to visit wife's kin. I like to fish wherever I can, so I brought a rod to try Central Park. Conditions were bad with temps in the low 50's with wind and rain. Did manage to land this one nice Largemouth Bass..... You do get lots of strange looks carrying a rod on the subway! Thanks for looking!

Nice looking fish. Good idea to take tackle along. Whatchacatchemon?

No reason to think the lake wouldn't hold fish. It probably doesn't get much pressure. Looks good in that picture.

A few years ago a fellow wrote a book about fishing inside the city limits of Richmond. There are some surprisingly good lakes in the city park system. NYC is probably about the same.

If you fish in NYC without a license, and get caught, How far under the jail would they put you?????just ask'in!!!!
JIM....................

I just hope you didn't use one of those "assault take down rods", and had no more then 7 lures in your "lure magazine". Is your reel registered?

Nice catch, by the way...I always wondered what was in those Central Park Ponds besided the obvious...:)

Thanks Guys. Just a few things to know if you want to give it a try. You need a valid license, you have to use barbless hooks and it is all catch and release. Got that one on a green pumpkin Senko. Jay

Central Park? O.M.G. Thought there was nothing but Carp in those waters, bet you sure surprised many!

Fishing in the NYC, Long Island and the southern NY area is diverse and great. A ton of small inland ponds, streams and lakes. The Hudson River, Long Island Sound, offshore in the Atlantic and an hour and a half northwest to some of the nation's best trout fly-fishing in the Catskills.

Granted, you may snag a decaying body part or some toxic medical waste in NYC but beyond that, you'd be amazed at the fishing. In the 5 Boroughs "catch and release" might be the law but it's also a path to continued good health!

Hope you had a non resident fishing license. That's a hefty fine if you get asked. Just saying....

One more thing. Since your in NYC, you should ask If your fishing pole needs a permit;)

This, my friends, is a fisherman. Kudos!

I am pretty certain a rod like that is illegal in NYC. 5 to 10 years for the rod; 10 more years for fishing without a license; 10 more years for having a fish out in public without his shots an license. Not to mention I would not eat anything that came out of that cesspool. Glad to hear you got away with it and lived to tell about it.

Fishing in central park, I surprised that bass didn't have his fin in your pocket.
