I went up to Lake Erie's South Bass Island this week. My wife and I stayed with friends at the Ohio park's rental cabins. From past experience the park would be packed all this week and next! But there were less than 10% of the tent or camper sites being used. The cabins were only 50 to 75% full. You have to pay for reservations in advance and normally only allowed to reserve 6 months out but there was hardly anyone on the "Party Island"! When we went to restaurants, seating was only every other table, but there were no lines or waits. The wait staff was friendly and thorough (instead of harried!) Prices seemed reasonable (for a vacation/tourist spot)

The only problem I encountered was, at the restaurant I had 2 cans of a very good local beer. But not one of the carry-outs on the island carries it!

One strange thing was, Lake Erie is famous for Walleye fishing! But the fish for our Fish and Chips was an Ocean fish, that had to be frozen and trucked at least 600 miles! The meal wasn't labeled as "All you can eat", but the 2 large fillets you got were all I could stand to eat! All four of us had the same meal and all had some leftovers!

You may just want to grab a mask and hit a favorite this long weekend, the lack of a crowd may surprise you! Your patronage will be appreciated and rewarded!

I enjoy Putt-Putt, I played on the most delightful and difficult course. Had both the worse score and best time of my life! (And no packs of running, screaming, unattended kids anywhere!)
