I'm fed up with my 2 year old 2 cycle gas powered grass trimmer. I have blisters on my hand from trying to start this ***.

Looking to replace it with a cordless battery powered trimmer.

Anyone have any recommendations? Looking online voltage range is from 12 to 60 volts for different trimmers. Any brand better or worse? Just need to trim around the flower beds and trees.

I keep going back to look that Worx 40v trimmer, has very good reviews...

I have a Black n Decker with 2- 20V lithium battery packs. I think the whole set up was under $100. 1 battery pack is enough to do a small to medium size yard. Rarely do I have to bust out 2nd battery but is great if you do need it. Using it 2 years now with nary a problem. Wish I would gave up the strokes a long time ago. Never could get more than 2 years out of any of my gas powered weedeaters here in Florida. Sitting in the above 100 degree shed just kills them.

I bought one at Home Depot (don't remember the brand). It worked very well, had ample power, and I could do everything that needed to be done on one charge. Just didn't last very long, two - three seasons as I recall. I went back to a gas model.

My son gave me an EGO 56 volt string trimmer. It will whack anything. Can't believe an electric trimmer can be so powerful. I have a Makita but its not even close to the EGO

My 6 year old Stihl starts and runs just fine. I have an Echo and a Craftsman that can ruin your shoulder and still not start. Should throw them out I guess.

I got a CubCadet trimmer about a year ago. Battery last long enough that I am ready for a break. They had a special of a second battery free with purchase at the time. I always have one charged and ready to go.

Also, very easy to replace the string.

Going on third year on a Ryobi trimmer. Works fine, a bit top heavy though. Bought at Lowes I think. No chord, no gas. Charge battery and go.

Have a neutron electric lawn mower at shop going on 15 years with only the third battery.:::good electrics are out there.

I think mine is a B&D; believe this is the third year for it. Has worked fine for my need, and is very light weight which is important for me. I'm partly disabled and must trim while sitting on the lawn tractor, which involves a good bit of one-handed use. I don't have any expectation of it lasting forever, though I can always hope.

Best wishes in your search -I don't care for being a consumer and having to find decent products, but what's the alternative?

Andy

I have the same B&D and very happy with it. :)

I cranked up my Stihl FS85 today for the first time this year. Started on the 3rd pull. I bought it new about 1996 or so. It's never even been to the shop. If it ever wears out, I think I'll buy another Stihl. I seriously doubt an electric would work for me, but if Stihl makes one, buy that. :D

My yard's small, so I use a plug in electric and drag the cord around. The only cordless one I bought was a Craftsman about 20 years ago that had a sealed lead acid battery. I don't remember the voltage, but it was garbage. The battery only lasted about 10-15 minutes. I used it a few times and then tossed it out.

I know they are much better now with the lithium ion batteries, but I can't really help with a brand recommendation.

I'm thinking off the top of my head about how many Ryobi cordless 18 V tools I have. String trimmer, blower, 10 foot pole chainsaw, reciprocating saw, large and small circular saws, drill, impact driver, air compressor, jig saw, angle grinder, .... I'm sure there are a few more. I have 4 chargers and 7 batteries in my garage and my truck and they all work great and the string trimmer would be fine for a normal size yard. I have a couple of acres and use an Echo gas powered trimmer for the heavy stuff but the Ryobi battery trimmer is so much lighter and quieter.

I have no patience with chargers or gas. I'll keep dragging the line. The Weed eater brand trimmer is a gem-very powerful, and 40 bucks at ace hdwr. If it quit, I would dash right up and get another one. The line isn't that bad, once you figure out the best way to lay it out.

Stihl makes a battery powered one now. My friend has one and is very happy with it.20 minutes on a charge.

I have had a Stihl gas one for 8 years and no problems. Use their oil. Always starts.
