Battery powered trimmers

too many out there to decide

have a small yard maybe 30 minutes to trim

I used to have a Black & Decker 18 volt with two batteries. It took 9 hours to charge each battery but I might get 10 minutes trimming for each charge. I had electric trimmers before this battery one. I got rid of all the electric/battery ones and got a gas Echo and probably won't go back to electric/battery types.

I also have a very small yard and around 15 min. worth of trimming each time. I bought a Black & Decker electric which has served the purpose for a couple of years now. I'm not naive enough to believe that it is some top-of-the-line, bulletproof device which will last forever. But I could afford it, and it is so light I can use it with one hand, in places where that is necessary(I'm partly disabled and have to trim while riding the garden tractor.).

Check out the store brands at lowes and Home Depot,they are a bit heavy but should work fine.Got talked into a kobalt (lowes) lawnmower a few years ago and it does the job quite well.The fast charger takes 2 hrs with the 4ah battery (40v) and 1 hr with a 2ah.
That's enough charge to mow my modest sized lawn 3 times
No stink,no noise and feels like half the weight of a gas mower

Lithium has changed the battery equipment game. Don't consider NiCad even if it's way cheap. I still like 2 stroke but lithium equip is coming on strong.

The new 40V Black & Decker is a great one. I find I reach for it over the backpack for many trim jobs. Be sure and look for 40V not the 20's you find in the big box places.

I bought a Black & Decker unit many years ago - maybe 9 (?) with an extra battery. It takes both batteries to do the yard, well one battery plus maybe 1/2 the charge on the second one. That's in the spring when the grass (aka weeds) are growing like crazy. I've been very pleased with it, and will buy another when this one croaks.

All my battery tools are Ryobi 18V from Home Depot I have about 17 tools and six batteries. I have a gas powered Echo weed eater for heavy trimming but for light trimming I love my light weight Ryobi string trimmer. I live on two acres but mostly only trim around the house and it will do it easily without changing batteries. It is much quieter and easier on my shoulders than my gas trimmer.

I’ve got a co-worker who’s a real tool junky and has converted a lot of his gas and plug in yard tools. He swears by the Ego brand.

I like my Ryobi 18+. I also have several other tools and several batteries. Lithium rocks.

I have learned how to manage the cords-I just plug my stuff in and go. I don't have much tolerance for charging of those little motors.

I also have the One+ 18v Ryobi, and a bunch of the other One+ tools. The trimmer is great. I have maybe 30 min of trimming to do. I use the small batteries, and can do all the trimming on one battery. Then the blower takes another battery. They charge in 1 hour. I like mine.

Yes, Lithium is the way to go if going battery

For the OP it really really depends on what and how much you trim.
I dislike battery powered anything for any long term work (other than drills)

Batteries WILL die and are expensive.

Drag a extension cord around if the yard is small, it's a PITA but you get more power.

In the Jungle down here, Stihl or Echo 2 stokes!

They make electric and Battery also.

I have an Echo gas powered trimmer, heavy and only gets used twice a year. So far I've managed to ruin several bushes, two pair of Levi's and the flesh above my left knee twice. Too heavy, too much money, and too dangerous.
