My best friends dad was a Navy flight engineer (for PBY's and torpedo bombers) during WWII in the South Pacific. Being an enlisted man he had work details, and they painting everything that didn't walk or get blown away by storms!
On one island, there were several Navy and USMC Squadrons (including VMF-214 "The Black Sheep Squadron") and a Navy hospital. It seemed like they had to paint the nurses latrine every week (nurses don't like spiders, so a spider web means, paint the latrine!) On day after finishing that paint job, one of the radio men hooked up a speaker in the latrine pit, and the amplifier and microphone were in some shrubs outside the nurses' compound fence. Every time a nurse walked in the latrine, one of the enlisted men would say, "Hey! We're painting down here, and you're blocking the light!" To the best of my friends knowledge, the nurses never used that latrine again, And he never had to paint it again either!
