Friday afternoon, 4:30 PM, in the backyard here in Floyd County. Wednesday afternoon, at my friend David's place 20 miles from here on the other side of the county, two came strolling through his yard at midday. It's a good year for bruins here.

I was thinking Big Thicket where sightings are becoming more common in recent times.

Black bears are beginning to re-occur in Illinois again. I think it will be some time before they get to the middle of the state where I live. We already have a few cougars. We have good herds of deer throughout most of the state, and now pretty good flocks of wild turkeys.

Had one in the neighborhood a couple of years ago, but none reported recently.

I don't tell other people what they should do, but for me, bear killing is very bad medicine, so I don't do it. Never in all these years, including an encounter with one at night while he was feeding off of blackberries, have I had a problem.
