Beating up the St Barts skies

Cool video. Would have been great to see in person. But I do have to say, for WWII aircraft, I've always been a split tail fan. Give me a P-38 or a P-61 any day.

Then how about an OV-10 Bronco? On the take off roll, Tay Ninh 1969.

The Douglas DB-7 was/is the coolest of all the planes shown, IMO.

The Avenger is cool, too!

I believe the big single radial was the SBD Dauntless. They were all awesome planes that did the flyovers, I kind of liked the two F7F Tigercats, as you don't see many of them. I've always been a fan of the P-40's too, ever since reading God is my Co-Pilot when I was young.

I wonder where they were staging from for the flyover. St. Barts is a difficult airport and it's a one-way in or out runway, as there is no opportunity for a go-around if you come in from the ocean, and if you overrun your approach over the hill, you get wet. I can't see the owners or pilots risking these warbirds to land there.

Last weekend was the annual airshow here. We didn't attend, but were driving past the airport when the Japanese Zeros were "bombing" the airport. The explosions the crew sets off on the ground look like real bombs going off, and I looked at my wife and said, "We gotta break out the ARs. The Japanese are attacking the airport."

I didn't see a DB-7 in that video, but I did see:-

North American B-25 Mitchell, J model with solid nose with 8x .50 cal
Grumman F7F Tigercat x2
Curtis P-40 (K model or later)
Mitsubishi A6M Zero
Grumman TBF or TBM Avenger
Vought F4U Corsair

I'd bet one of those loitering over a crash site would bring some peace of mind to the survivors. Cool planes, but by then the Phantoms were out. Like Teri Ford in third grade, I didn't have eyes for any other bird.:D

There were two B-25's as well, one had the shark's mouth painted on it, the other didn't. The big dive bomber was a Dauntless, it had an open rear cockpit. The Avenger has a ball turret.

Found the other B-25, glass nosed J model. Looked all over for a Dauntless and couldn't find it. What is the time index where it appears?
