Hey Guys! We came across a really nice 29-2, and one of our customers said you were the people to check it out. We have no history on this piece, and are very curious to see if anyone has laid eyes on one of these before. The revolver times beautifully, there is very minimal drag on the cylinder, and the bore looks mint. The Nickel could use a little bit of cleaning from being handled, but this piece is in pretty fantastic shape.

What we know:

Nickel Plated
Three Screw
Strain Screw
Hand Ejector
SN # N683257
Fully Engraved
8 3/8" Pinned Barrel
Fully Engraved Frame, Barrel, & Cylinder
Adjustable Rear Sight
Color Cased Hammer & Trigger
Wooden Box w/ red velvet & cleaning kit

What we don't know:

Factory Engraving or aftermarket?
Engravers information?
Era of Manufacture?
Commemorative or collectible series?
Approximate Value?
Are the Antler grips original configuration?
Was the box a factory S&W product?

Any information you guys can come up with would be greatly appreciated! This forum comes highly recommended, and we are excited to learn more about this beautiful revolver. We have a couple if other engraved S&Ws that we would love to show you guys as well! (PM us if you would like to make an offer!)

You came to the right place for the information that you have asked for. I will hazard a guess that it was not factory engraved because I don't think S&W would want their logo covered with an animal head. But, that's just a guess. The real experts will be along soon.

A few answers...The engraving is after market, but I am not sure by which engraver, the serial number dates the 29-2 to 1979, it is a collectible rather than a commemorative, value around $2750 (guess on my part), Magna stocks are after market, the case is original S&W, but has been relined with red velvet.

Serial number would indicate that it shipped in late 1979 or early 1980. obtaining a Smith & Wesson letter would pinpoint it for you.

The SCSW doesn't have any reference to a 29-2 special edition with this type of engraving and grips so I would strongly getting a S&W Letter and get as much actual history for this revolver as possible.

The red lining in the presentation case would indicate to me that it is a after market edition. As far as I know S&W used blue lining for all of their presentation cases.

All in all, I agree with the above $2750 value estimate.

I have seen this 29-2 (as well as all of his other engraved revolvers) in person and it is really a nice firearm. The carved bear head has been finely done and the stocks are excellent quality.

Impressive collection of high quality engraved revolvers (29s, 36s, and 60s). This forum is definitely the place to get more info on these special guns.

Get a Super Fancy Tooled Leather Holster for this and as others have indicated, it is the BBQ gun to end all BBQ guns.

Not my style at all, but it is very nicely done.
