Ok, first off, i do not know where to put this. If it is in the wrong spot please put it in the correct one.

Was in a local gun store talking to the man behind the counter and asked him what if I wanted to buy a handgun.
He said that the background check in Oregon is 30,000+ in the queue and it would be at least 3 months be fore you could pick it up.
I said I had a CC permit and could go to the front of the line. He said I could, but that queue is over 4000! 😳
So it seems to me that if someone has that real nice triple-lock for $700 I will have to pass. Sorry 😢
Right now it seems that this situation will not even begin to get straightened out for a year ant best. Even with the lawsuits pending it is going to be a rocky road.
I hear Idaho is pretty this time of the year. 😎

In the PRNJ (Peoples Republik of New Jerseystan) we call it purchase permit purgatory. Each handgun requires its own permit to purchase. You see a handgun you want to buy but did not have the foresight to have an unexpired permit to purchase in the ready. So you shell out the dough to the seller, and have it shipped to a local FFL who is willing to hold onto it until the permit comes through, and then you wait. I was once in purgatory for a full six months, and that is not uncommon. If the FFL is nice and not too busy he might grant supervised visitation while waiting. As I said Purchase Permit Purgatory.

As for you—Welcome to the PRNJ !!!

As bad as we have it here in Cali, it's better than what my comrades to the north are currently going through.

Best regards,

I hope they closely monitor the data after this is in place for a period of time to determine if they solved the problem they were trying to solve.

Rarely do complex problems have simple solutions. OTOH we see folks create complex solutions to simple problems.

Both are usually accomplished by Bureaucrats.

Just came across this article about your problem.

Oregon gun sales skyrocket after gun control Measure 114 passes - oregonlive.com

Interesting article...thanks for sharing it.

It appears that Oregon is adopting a variation of what we've lived with in Maryland for years...a state background check system.

Here, you must have a Handgun Qualification License (HQL) in order to buy any handgun. In order to get the HQL, you have to be fingerprinted, and complete a training course unless you are exempted by virtue of being a veteran or hunter.

Every single handgun purchase, you must complete a Maryland State Police (MSP) form 77R, which is basically a copy of the ATF's 4473. There is a one-week waiting period before you can pick up your new gun. MSP is very efficient, and they do get those 77r's processed quickly.

The maddening thing is that these gun laws were all created in response to the violence in one place in Maryland, namely Baltimore. And since criminals don't obey gun laws, the main effect of all this hassle is to frustrate and anger law-abiding gun owners...

Maybe I am not reading between the lines on the second amendment but, I don't recall there being a provision that you have to complete a course and be fingerprinted to get a handgun, or any legal firearm for that matter.

If you are exempted as a hunter, does that mean that they had just taken a hunter's safety class or do you have to be fingerprinted to be a hunter?

Rent a vacation home someplace else. Buy while you're there.
Go to jail, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.
While you can buy a handgun out of state, you MUST have it shipped to an FFL in your home state. Renting a home has nothing to do with it, you have to be a citizen of that state.

One of the reasons I moved out of Maryland.

Buy a gun from an individual and avoid the governments involvement entirely. At least in Texas.
