"3 pretty good ones "- Lee, you are a man of true humility and a master of understatement.
I get to wear this once a year.

Ordnanceguy and I went to the Phoenix Symposium early and traveled around Arizona. We went to a small gun show and I found this rig.

Red notes in Holstory that Bedell Rogers and his father Robert both made holsters for L.A. Sessums as well as for their own mark.

Regards,

Are we looking at a Sunday Scabbard Buscadero rig?

Yes, that's a fair assessment. It fits a 4" K frame revolver, my Combat Magnum fits. It's a later one with a snap as opposed to a sewn bottom. I think there is a stamp on the holster but am not at home to check. I'm leaving for the Symposium in Tulsa next Tuesday.
Regards,

It was Bedell's father Robert, not his birth name which is Hispanic, who originally was the maker of Sessums' 'sunday scabbards'. Bedell was a rodeo rider and also worked with his father in the Sessums shop beginning 1925 while a boy.

Robert's gunleather is a rare collectible but I do have an image of at least one. Bedell was one of the few sunday scabbard makers who also offered it with an open muzzle. His career lasted until a few years prior to his death in '94. IMHO his gunleather is crudely executed for a holster that, in Brill form, is a lightweight concealment product but as a Rogers was overweight.

It is from Bedell's mother's life journey that we realize that a Mexican Indian could live out part of her life in Indian Territory yet live out most of the rest of it in Texas. This led to my view that Tom Threepersons was a Mexican Indian, too; although he claimed a birth in I.T. the records of his travels never took him out of the mountain range that runs from Mexico in the South to Colorado to the North and never to I.T.

The mag button protector also appeared on L.A. Sessums' holsters, and these were made by the Rogers until Sessums died and Fisher closed down his saddlery; leaving the Rogers to strike out on their own with their own marks.

The purpose of another such 'device', as used on Sessums holsters, is less clear to us all. It is found only on SA holsters:

Red, It looks like it positions the grip frame away from the body to allow a faster firing grip on the gun in less time. This would be a benefit from an open carry perspective, not so much the concealed carry side.

Here are a couple more tooled and laced holsters for 1911 pistols. Un-marked but certainly Rogers work. The second holster has what I used to call a "Border Cant" but now I call it a "Strong Texas Tilt".

My photos of two belt slide type holsters by Bedell Rogers at The Shootist gun store in Tyler, Texas. I read that the owner died this year.

I was not a fan of lacing until I saw the way Bedell Rogers did it.

They were not for sale or I'd have come home with one.

I tried to buy those and others from Mac on several occasions.
