Any other beekeepers here besides me?
I have 4 hives, 2 of which are caught swarms.
Just helped a neighbor harvest 20 hives. He ended up with 45 gals of honey. Took 5 of us all day to work it into quart jars with an electric extractor.

I don't do bees, chocolate covered or other wise! But I am a big fan o their work! I take some of their honey and brew it into Mead; A beverage fit for kings , gods, Vikings and mere men! My favorite is a 1200 year old recipe called Dragon's Blood and is brewed in Denmark. My homemade mead takes around 3 1/2 to 4 years to reach perfection.

Lets hear it for the bees!

I'm a beekeeper in the southwest corner of Indiana....although at times, I think they are actually keeping me.

This is my 5th year. This has been my best year so far. Five hives yielded approx. 300 pounds of the sweet stuff.

Honeybees are truly amazing creatures....and among other things, are responsible for pollinating approximately 1/3 of our food supply.

We would be in a bind without them.

Typical brood frame in the spring. Honey around the top, golden colored arc of pollen (protein for the bees), and sealed brood in the middle......about 2000 developing bees on this one side of one frame. Egg to emergence is 21 days for the workers.....all females.

Wow, this is very interesting. My father in law before I met him kept bees. I know in the loft of the barn, there was a lot of bee keeping material for hives

Bee keeping

This is our 2nd year with bees got about 100 lbs. of honey this year. Very satisfied with that. We give most to family and friends. They are interesting creatures and do require a lot of care. My wife's niece has about 25 hives and processes th honey commercially, she is very busy. We enjoy them and are teaching the grandkids about them while we are learning. Hopefully they will want to do them for a 4H or FFA project when they get older.

For me the honey is a bonus. I use them for my arthritis.
I have been stinging myself with honey bees for over 10 years.
Do a search for Bee Venom Therapy. it has really helped me.

How Bee Therapy Works
