I've wanted a Model 28 4" barrel for quite a while and finally snagged this one off the infamous Gun Broker. Of course I paid too much. Isn't that the way it happens a lot of the time? It's a 28-2 and I think definitely in excellent condition. Just picked it up from my FFL today and I am really proud of the way it looks. Serial number is N5562XX. I've got it's birthday narrowed down to '79 or '80 probably 1979 based on the 3rd Edition S&W catalog. Need some help. Am I close or does anybody else have a different idea? Excuse the not so original pictures but here they are. Thanks! Proud camper. Range tomorrow is a definite.

Nice snag. Have several 28's and at least one goes along every range trip.

That gun has sort of become a hard one to find. All the dealers I know are constantly wishing a 28-2 with a 4 inch barrel would walk in the door. The 6 inch barrel has hit $800 lately. The 4 inch has broken through $1000 this month. . .at least every one I've seen (which is not many). Maybe you didn't pay too much.

You may have paid a lot, but you got a super nice Highway Patrolman there. Its getting harder and harder to find them like that. Most have the hammer and trigger changed out to the target variety, replacement grips, and WO and RR sights. Yours looks like a pureblood.

Well thanks to both of you. I paid less than those prices so that makes me feel really good. And it is in pristine condition. If I had the box I swear I think it could be ANIB. Thanks again. Have I got the birthday about right?

Not hard to love the Model 28-2 with 4 inch barrel as it's everything you need in a 357 Magnum and nothing you don't need.

Here's mine with an S serial number
